After the last few polls on genre, I noticed that Low Fantasy gets basically 0% of the vote nearly 100% of the time, and that's cool if that's an accurate poll. I just want to make sure that everyone knows the difference between Low and High Fantasy.

High Fantasy

Everyone is probably very familiar with the idea of high fantasy. Think properties like Lord of the Rings, Dungeon Meishi (Delicious in Dungeon), or Game of Thrones. It's a Fantasy setting, in a fantasy world, with fantasy creatures, doing fantastical things. When you think of a fantasy setting, its often times what you'd imagine. Going on a quest to into a dungeon and getting the enchanted sword. Running with the tree elves to save their village from a dragon's flame. A lich sorcerer raises an army of the dead etc. etc.

But, what does that make LOW fantasy?

Low Fantasy

Low fantasy is similar but yet, quite different. It has the fantasy creatures, and maybe even interesting fantastical quests, but most often, the setting itself is in modern life. Harry Potter, Elf-san wa Yaserarenai (Plus-Sized Elf), and Bright are all examples of Low Fantasy.

Low Fantasy is a mix between normal modern stories we'd tell but just with the fantasy creatures as well as including some stories that also have quest story lines, like finding the long lost and forgotten spell book to bring back the dragons, or something. These creatures have evolved past magic, often times making it illegal to use, and are now existing in modern life doing modern things.

I'll get off my soap box now, I just wanted everyone to have a better understanding when I ask about High vs. Low Fantasy. Cause if Low Fantasy is something you enjoy, I don't want you to miss out.
