📌 Note: Embedded audio is off-topic and was something I recorded earlier today. I didn't want to spam a separate post. Mostly a ramble to say hello. But uh, onto post...
It's a new month aaaand I'm trying something new. Please don't hate me.
I've been avoiding it forever, but I made a TikTok. Actually I made it a while ago, but it's been an empty page for probably a year now.
I don't know how to feel about it yet. I'm always a bit nervous trying something new. And TikTok doesn't have the shiniest reputation with the established GWA community. I feel like the general discourse has been to avoid it. Part of it is probably because we don't like change. And part of it is probably because of the generational gap. Most performers my age didn't grow up with TikTok. We had YouTube, Twitter, Reddit...maybe even MySpace! So this new thing? TikTok? Ew it's for kids.
And being the responsible adult performers we are, we do not engage with minors, therefore TikTok is off the table. But if we're being honest, it's where people are going. TikTok is one of the fastest growing social media platforms for adult users.
Personally, I've never been big on social media. IRL me practically doesn't exist online. But SkittyKat does. So I feel really awkward and strange, justifying why I need to use TikTok... but as a content creator, if I want to grow, it's probably what I'll have to use.
If you absolutely despise TikTok, that's totally a-okay! Please be rest assured that my long form audios will still be on YouTube, Reddit, and... PizzaHut aka CornHub aka Orange YouTube. TikTok will probably be similar to Twitter, I'll just post previews and short audios here and there.
Anywho, if you have any thoughts, please comment below or use my anonymous feedback form.
