So my anxiety about jury duty ended up being justified. Despite the fact that I have no employer (being a self-employed business owner) to compensate for time off, I'm still required to do my two weeks of jury duty. (Maybe more depending on the case I get assigned? I honestly don't understand how this shit works.)Luckily the lady was sympathetic enough to let me postpone until November, so I can prep for GMX  for now. But man. Wtf. $11 a day is the jury duty pay. Employers of regular jobs are required to pay the difference between that $11 and their regular pay, but I'm just going to fall further behind on commission work. I'm going to try to bring my laptop with to work while waiting for crap, but I'm not sure if I'll have a chance. Guh. I'm reeeally tempted to see if I can get a psychologist to give me a note for social anxiety to get out of it. I hate to shirk my civic duty, but it seriously does stress me. I get anxious about *calling* strangers, much less helping decide their legal fate. EVERYONE IS INNOCENT LEAVE ME ALONE. ;n;

Anyway, in happier news...FALLLL! Odkit has donned her calico colors for this announcement of the change of password. http://odderkitten.tumblr.com/Fall password: autcumnAnd back to the mash ups I go! (Btw for those wondering where the snap recap is, I'm going to wait till I finish all the mash ups to catch up on those. Sorrrry! Soon! Hopefully!)

$11 a day? Thats not even minimum wage.

Yeeep. That's why employers are supposed to step in. I don't understand the loophole with letting it screw over self-employed folks. I guess they assume you're well off if you're trying to run your own business. >.> Also legally you're not supposed to work after being there, from what I was told on the orientation day. Though obviously they wouldn't know if I did - but for regularly employed people, their employers aren't allowed to have them work after. They want you to be awake/alert in the courtroom, not overworked. :x

I wouldn't sweat it too much. Odds are you won't even end up on a case.

Federal minimum wage is $7.25/hour, and the only place in the country with a higher minimum wage than $11/hour is DC (at $11.50/hour). It's pretty messed up that people are expected to be able to live on that.
