Tokusatsu in Review: Kamen Rider Blade (introduction)

If you want to skip the translation rant, just go straight to part 1. WE HAVE DISABLED COMMENTING DUE TO THE CAUSTIC REPLIES SEEN OF PREVIOUS VIDEOS DISCUSSING THIS TOPIC. TAKE THE POLITICKING SOMEWHERE ELSE; WE COULD CARE LESS WHO YOU USE AS YOUR SOURCE OF SUBTITLES, THIS IS JUST CLARIFYING OUR POSITION FOR THOSE WHO KEEP ASKING. WE REALLY, REALLY DISLIKE UNNECESSARY CREATIVE LIBERTIES REGARDLESS OF WHO COMMITS THEM, AND CONSIDER THEM WORSE THAN LEGITIMATE ERRORS AS THEY ARE CONSCIOUS CHOICES TO BE WRONG INSTEAD OF AN ACCIDENTAL MISTAKE OR ATTEMPT TO PRESERVE THE NARRATIVE. MISTAKES ARE FORGIVABLE, PRESERVING INTENT EVEN IF ONE MESSES UP IS UNDERSTANDABLE, DELIBERATELY CHOOSING TO BE WRONG IS NEITHER. I think your discussion on subs was fair enough from how you like them.i personally use over-time because I prefer soft subs and don't like the text effects. But I wouldn't give anyone any trouble for using TV Nihon as long as we're both enjoying the show that's all that matters to me.

Des Shinta

That's fair, and to over-time's credit, when they make a mistake and someone calls it out, they tend to own up to it these days--The Gokaiger example I cited was from their release in their second year where they were more smeg-headed about it. They could afford to be a bit more transparent about it than a Blogpost comments board, but As showcased with the build opening themes example, they made a lot of fixes to their translation of that as soon they could, and are more attentive to that now. I think they'd be better though if they didn't so expediently rush out their sub and kept trying to act like they're making a dub, as their re-translation projects where they take their time to get it right and relatedly take fewer liberties (Dekaranger) are far better than their 'just after broadcast' releases. 'cause I watched their take on Dekaranger (and to a lesser extent Timeranger), and they did good on those. So normally At worst, their liberties are obnoxious instead of outright misinforming the narrative. In example, (while I hated the show) last year with kyranger their translation of the transformation cry "Seiza (constellation)" as "say the", while correct for the homonym the phrase was invoking, was obnoxious for the short time I actively followed that show because it drowned out the alternative connotations of said phrase despite it being equally as valid a way to translate it. But There's a difference between using a group because of a style preference as you are which is totally fine (the typesetting thing is a more-than-legitimate Critique of TVN as even i find those frustrating at times since some of their fonts make the subtitle hard to read), and declaring them to 'by default be the best because they're not the other group we declare to by default worst' which then ignores anything that might be wrong; so go ahead to like and use what you like and use. I'm just really sick of the 'false equivalency' Argument the hatedom makes about all this.

Think a big problem is everyone bases their opinion on them on the early releases. Where now they have improved dramatically since when people were calling them out. I recently watched their releases of Timeranger for the last part after where OT got to and the translation was perfectly fine. Also watch Kiva with their release for most it and it was feel thing here and there but nothing too major. Yeah and like you said OT main problem is rushing their releases. If they maybe decided to release them a day later they could fixed all their problems and not have to release a V2. Having multiple groups doing the shows is a good thing as it gives everyone choice on what to watch them via. Just hate the whole stupid arguments of which one is better when their both going for slightly different things translation wise.

Also you can't not respect TV Nihon for amount of shows they have done compared to any other group. The number of shows they've done is unrivalled
