Hello Bonny Hope you are well and having a good week. Firstly, I must say a massive thank you as I am thoroughly enjoying being these wonderful lessons. I am at the moment into the video at 46:56/1:27:11 and I have noticed that looking at my colours they look just like yours but I seem to have a lot of tiny white spots appearing. Is this because maybe I am not pressing hard enough?. I am using Strathmore bristol vellum surface Series 300 270g/m2. Look forward to hearing from you. All the best Sheila :-)

Hi Sheila, thank you so much :) I think because you're using a different surface you will need to just tweak your technique a little. With the bristol vellum there is quite a bit of tooth - but it's a different tooth to pastelmat which is more - i want to say like a fabric, but it's not really lol, but it kind of describes it (not very helpful I know!). So I would say use sharper pencils that I do, and keep them sharp because you want your pigment to really get into the tooth of the paper - if you go in with blunter pencils on the vellum you skim over the tooth and end up with these white spots. Another thing you can try, is to very lightly burnish each layer you put down - again very different to what I'm doing, but it does work. So you add a layer and lightly (medium pressure) burnish with a lighter pencil than what the layer is - it doesn't have to be white - if you're using a dark brown, try burnishing with a warm grey 2 or 3. If you're using a blue, try burnishing with a cold grey - have a bit of a play and see what happens. Red, try burnishing with a warm grey or a pink like cinnamon . Let me know how you get on and if you need further help - you're welcome to send me an email with the image and we can chat through what's happening? My email is bonny.snowdon@gmail.com Bonny :)

Bonny, can I ask why you do the head band and the band around the mouth and then start the fur under the bottom part? Ok that may not sound clear enough??? Are you trying to "map out" the leather bands before starting fur???
