I was wondering if anyone would be interested in the option to use annual pledges. As the name implies, it gives you the option to pay for a year’s worth of a certain tier, and in return I set a discount percentage for those that do so. I plan to set the discount to the maximum amount of 16%, which equates to you getting two months of that tier for free. Using the early access tier as an example, instead of paying $60 for twelve months of access, you would pay $50 instead. The main downside is that you won’t be able to see exactly what is coming up in the next update before deciding if it’s worth paying to access it early, so I wanted to ask first if people would use the ability to pledge annually. And in advance of enabling that option, if you have any questions about how it would work, you can ask them here.

not only is it a big chunk even at a discount, but that discount is nulled because of all the new tax stuff patreon does. those taxes on anything over $50 get stupid. It might just be my region/area, but the taxes are absurd and definitely make annual pledges a no-go

Interesting, the taxes aren't just a percentage of what is paid? Would you be willing to message me what region that is, so I can look up how the taxes work?

I pledge annually to other devs. The only downside for me is the risk that a dev might suspend their pledges for a bit which complicates things with an annual pledge.

Patreon becomes more and more anti consumer almost each 3 to 6 months with banning more and more categories of fetishes and content. So, no i wouldn't use a annual pledge to creators on a platform that for last year felt for me personally like its right next to that last tipping point of becoming Tumblr exodus 2.0

Yeah if Patreon itself were less hostile to porn game creators these days I'd do annual pledge in a heartbeat, but somehow I doubt if they kick you off the service in march they'll actually refund the difference to me. They'll just pocket it.

Yeah the only reason I wouldnt pledge annually is if Patreon straight bans the game, if you couldnt refund remaining time. I dont really look at whats coming update wise to determine if I stay a patron. Its more based on activity. So my two main concerns are: The game remains actively developed for that year and that it still exists on the platform over that time frame. That said, I like having the option to annual pledge.

From what Patreon says, suspending pledges gives people with active annual pledges an extra month added to the duration of their pledge free, so it shouldn't have any disadvantage over monthly payments there.

Some of the top patreon creators are NSFW account, including some other adult games, so I don’t see patreon going the Tumblr route and flat out banning adult content entirely. Personally, I don’t think my game is at risk of being removed from the platform, since it doesn’t really have any of the “questionable” content that patreon has been against. Of course, there’s no way to be certain of what they will do, so I understand not being comfortable with annual pledges. I hadn’t considered that issue, so I appreciate you voicing it.

I am fairly confident that if Patreon did ban a creator, annual pledges would be refunded for the remaining time patrons had paid for. That is an option creators have normally for processing refunds, and I cannot see a reason they wouldn’t do that in the case of a page being shut down.
