Update: Notifying because this is pretty significant, there were some bugs with Hypno Hell that should be fixed if you apply the version 0.11.2 patch in the download folder, like the game teleporting you to the end of Hypno Hell entirely in the middle of the dungeon. Whoopsies. And if the traps weren't appearing in Hypno Hell the debugger should have an option to fix that now. It shouldn't happen with the newest version though.

Update 2: If you've gotten an error where your screen freezing while playing the game, this update should fix that issue, as I've added a plugin to deal with the problem. It also might help with some micro stuttering you may have encountered. It's hard to test for since it's pretty subtle, and for me was only present right after launching the game, so I'm not 100% sure if this is making a big difference in that regard or not. When applying this patch, be sure to copy over both the data and js folders within the patch folder.

Regular Post: Alright, well, I missed the June 5th mark by a tad, but the update is finally out (download folder in the prior post for backers, as this info post is public). I mentioned what slowed me down before, but it was basically me underestimating how long things would take compounded by several other things in my life delaying me, and me needing to go back and fix a lot of bugs that were found when the public version of 0.10 came out.

Porting saves

Much like patching, porting over saves basically just requires you to move your save folder from your current version of the game into the new version, merging the folders and overwriting them if you are asked to do so. If you are using an html5 version, you’ll instead need your game to be in the exact same location and have the same name as your prior version. So if you had the game folder "CiC Anime" on your desktop, you have to put the new version on your desktop and rename it to "CiC Anime" as well, because I added the version number to the downloads this time.

New content

So, onto this update. I think I weighed it too heavily into new content as opposed to porting over old things, but the good news there is that it’s got a lot of new content. The Lamia has a shortish new scene where she hypnotizes you, which leads to more scenes in Elmgar (Mostly centered around Beatrice, but there’s some stuff in the bar as well). Then, there’s the new section of the second dungeon, entitled “Hypno Hell”. This section basically takes the two hypno trap areas already in the second dungeon and turns them into a whole maze of traps to run through. There are 8 different colors of tiles that will flash on and off in the dungeon, and there are 8 different hypnosis traps you can experience if you get caught in them. Most of the traps build upon themselves the more you are hit by them, but most of them also have different version based on what other traps you’ve already been affected by, so you might enjoy mixing and matching the different effects. (After you properly get through the new section and save, of course. You wouldn’t intentionally land on lewd hypnosis squares, would you?) If you get hit by enough of the traps, you’ll end up climaxing and lose a charge of your linking device.

There are three different paths you can take in Hypno Hell, all getting you to the same destination. The differences, other than the layouts, are that they each have their own secrets containing items, have differing difficulty, and have different compositions of traps. Because you are able to get hit by multiple traps, I wanted to make the difficulty of avoiding everything pretty high, but if you are finding it impossible to progress then going through the westernmost route will probably be the easiest. The eastern path is the hardest.

I’ve also reintroduced the Church location, accessible the same way as it was in the Twine version of the game (By interacting with the statue in the second dungeon).

Encountering lag in the second dungeon

I’m a bit worried about this, depending on how fast your computer is there could be some lag from all the events switching on and off while in the dungeon. I have it set up so only the area you are in has it’s traps active at any one time to try and mitigate this, but you could still have issues. If you experience significant framerate issues, please let me know (and let me know what your framerate hovers around by pressing f2). If you have a sudden lag spike when new traps start activating, just wait a few seconds and the framerate should stabilize.

Feedback

I’d like to hear your thoughts on Hypno Hell, there’s some aspects to it that I’m not 100% sure on. For example, after a trap catches you and you finish the scene, you get a bit of time to get to safety before the traps reactivate, but if you weren’t paying enough attention you could end up standing on another trap by accident when they turn back on. But I also think that could add to the experience. The player is so dazed from the barrage of lewd traps they get hit by a series of them as they become disoriented, and since traps usually have some variants based on what traps you’ve already triggered, it could help to get you to see those variants. The individual routes themselves also don’t take very long to get through, but that’s also somewhat intentional. If you enjoy it, you can go through the other two routes in search of hidden items, and if it wasn’t your cup of tea, you can quickly get through it. Despite that, I still wonder if it’s too short overall, let me know what you think, I suppose.

Image packs

I’ve changed how swapping image packs works. Now, you’ll just need to take the image pack you are switching to (either “Rendered Images” or “Anime Images”), and copy and paste them into the main image folder, merging the folders when asked and overwriting any duplicates. I just realized I should probably have put both a folders in each version of the game, but right now you’ll only have the alternative version in your folder, so if you overwrite the image pack it came with you’ll no longer have those images.

Plans for version 0.12/Rambling

I still need to port over the Elven village, Beatrice’s transformative potions, Daisy’s scene, the ability to check the players appearance, and a bunch of clothes into the RPG Maker version, so I’ll probably spend a bit more time on that with this next update. I basically ended up doing a full normal update of new content for version 0.11, and then taking a bit of extra time to add in the Church. My current goal is to have everything from the twine version in the game by version 0.13. For new content, I have more to add to Hypno Hell, events like finding other adventurers in there, not more traps, and I’d like to do something new for either Claire or Daisy. Or I might change my mind entirely, but that’s what I’m thinking at the moment.

The second dungeon is almost finished, I’d like to move onto a fresh dungeon that I can start in RPG Maker, Hypno Hell is a good example of how events can be used in the game, but I’d like to start adding a bit more focus on combat/exploration with the next dungeon.

It’s been great so far! Haven’t run into any bugs yet besides “wrap” appearing at the start of some dialogue

By check appearance, does this mean the create player appearance isn't there yet? Because I can't get it to work under win7 (the only windows I have), or under Linux, where it just does not even appear. Both of these are with the html version.

I do have a suggestion/request for some future version. I noticed by accident when gathering dickweed that it allowed multiple attempts at yanking it from the ground, and the first few actually decreased penis size. But when it got to 1 inch it wouldn't go any further. So I assume a Beatrice potion won't go any further as well. For some future version would it be possible to allow a complete sex change? I realize that will add more complexity to the game, but offer it as something to think about.

There is an issue with the character creator when run through a browser, as the plugin tries to save files onto your computer, which browsers will not allow. If possible, running the game using one of the other versions is recommended. Check appearance refers to the ability to get a short description of the player regarding things like body sizes and currently worn clothing, but hasn't been ported over to RPG Maker yet.

Thanks for letting me know about the bug when gathering plants. I do not plan for the player to have a permanent sex change. You are right in that it adds complexity, but you might not realize just how much complexity that adds. The issue is that whether the player has a vagina or a penis would pretty much require different versions of every sex scene, which would be very time consuming to undergo. I also just prefer writing from the perspective of the character being a boy, just because I think that’s more fun. I have plans for the player to be temporarily gender bent though.

Here is some feedback on the hypno hell, as requested. It is really a fun place, and I've only started to explore it. So far it's probably one of the best features in the game. But there are some drawbacks. At the stage I'm at right now (having gotten through one path, but not successful yet in another one), I've noticed a marked decreas in the encounters with lamia and incubi. Hupno hell seems to now take almost all of the dungeon space, so there isn't much else to explore, and thus no encounters. This reduces the ability to increase level and acquire more silver. In turn, this limits the abilty to pay for more nights in the bar (maybe to force "working" for a room?). I guess it is a balancing act, but maybe there could be another passage with something to find, and more chances to fight creatures. Or maybe I just missed the entrance to one that already exists. I didn't see any hints of this in the walkthrough, so I'm guessing not. In the meantime I will continue to enjoy poking around hypno hell and look forward to dungeon 3.

There are no enemy encounters while within Hypno Hell, largely because it would be hard to keep track of where traps are if you are put into a random encounter while walking around; when you come back, even if there's a delay on the traps reactivating it's hard to tell where a safe space might be unless you know for sure you were already on one. And because I want to encourage running around a lot in Hypno Hell, and having to worry about slews of encounters makes that difficult. To compensate the lack of ability to earn silver, Hypno Hell has six different weapons you can find within it, which would be worth about 50 silver all together if sold (I haven’t gotten Beatrice to sell weapons herself yet, but you can sell things at skirts and more). There aren’t a whole lot of encounters outside of Hypno Hell because the second dungeon has a pretty basic layout due to it being ported over from Twine, and I wanted to avoid a tedious amount of encounters. I might spruce it up some more at some point, but for now I really just want to start fresh making a dungeon in RPG Maker and seeing what I can do with encounters and exploration with it. Thanks for all the feedback, I'm glad you're enjoying the new section!
