TOTK RANDOMIZER UPDATE NOTES - v0.6.0 (KEY FEATURE UPDATE)

New:

  • KEY FEATURE: Enemies are now able to spawn everywhere. This is a temporary event like the Prohibitions and there is a limit of how many enemy groups can spawn at the same time as well. Note that actors like Birds and animals such as Foxes, which suddenly spawn in the normal game already, now have many more possible spawn locations due to the removal of all ForbidAutoPlacement areas in the entire game.

Additions:

  • Added 142 Goals (142 Complete Shrines).
  • Added 40 Teleport Locations (20 Shrines, 20 Overworld Shrines).
  • Added 20 Items (20 Monster Parts).

Changes:

  • Made Vows significantly better. Reduced their ability and attack interval cooldowns by half. Doubled their attack power.
  • Made it so that only 2 Prohibitions can be active at the same time.

Bugfixes:

  • Fixed a bug that prevented random teleports out of nowhere to occur.
  • Fixed a bug where the UI would disappear and you couldn't open any menus resulting in a softlock.

Optimizations:

  • General code optimization.

So is future balancing planned on some of these features? Like, I get the novelty of it and that you're still beta testing, but it stops being cute really fast to spend 6 hours in game and have 3 of them with Frox or Gleeok constantly spawning around you. Like, for it to be a fun mechanic, you need a much, much larger pool of possible monsters (i.e. all of them), and have random spawns show up at least bit less frequently. The prohibitions similarly show up way too often to stay fun, and can last for way too long. Really, even less frequent triggering of the randomizer (max is 2 minutes I think? Needs like 5 or 10 for lowest setting) itself would be nice as an option, especially since x3 doesn't offer a wildly more different experience than x4 (nor does x2, arguably). The whole point is replayability, but the current approach actually limits replayability once you've done a single run. The goals system doesn't even help because you're still forced to do the Great Sky Island, which is surprisingly linear compared to the great plateau. Mixing up shrine powers just creates backtracking on those linear paths, funneled even further by the need to avoid open areas where minibosses spawn. I really do like the mod (love it actually), and I'm looking forward to a more complete version of it, but the lack of documentation or a roadmap makes it hard to imagine what that complete version will look like.

More enemies will be added with the upcoming 0.6.1 update! I can probably add an even slower Randomizer Cycle speed.
