I hope you're all ready for something very special - I had some extra time to put together a super in-depth video all about Metal Licks that also make great technique exercises!

Download the full Metal Lick Package here (play-along videos, backing tracks, tabs, guitar pro files): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1y9sCXBtz9yELgAB9JhjG5mMhyWya2A0r?usp=sharing

To keep the file size manageable (with over 20 play-along videos!), every video only features one repetition of each lick. So please just make sure to set your video player to 'repeat' and work with them for as long as you like :)

By the way, here's a Dropbox folder in case Google Drive doesn't work for you: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/f9emv8wjxbw1eca/AACJEVEY7i96ainK0SS-xi_Ua?dl=0

Great Bernth, love the insight into some of the licks from Elevation.........love Dopamine especially. Happy weekend.

On Lick 9, you propose to use a bit the palm to mute the non played lower strings. Is muting a common practice in sweep picking or should I go for placing my right hand on the bridge and play sweeps super clear by a silent pull of motion with my left hand to avoid unwanted noise? I think I'm making some scratching noise with my palm when playing 5 notes sweeps while moving the right hand downwards. Have a nice weekend dear shredders!

far far away in another galaxy...too advance for me but looking forward in the future! awesome licks thanks for all your hard work

start em slow been doing bernths drills for like 6 months daily now. it definitely pays off to memorize the licks and understand where else we can apply them!

I wish to have licks like lick#5 two-three times longer and more vivid to really have longer duration exercises... makes bigger fun to practice... Lick#7 is also a killer one, but so short... As the others commented... yes, challenges are great to improve... but some of these are Don Quijote challenges... anyway, thanks for the inspiration again...

I’m having a go today bring on the challenge 😂 wish me luck Setting my bpm at 20 😂

bernth

To me it mostly depends on if you like the sound, it can bring out the percussiveness of the note values/arpeggios a bit more :) It shouldn't be a shortcut to proper finger barring and technique, but I do like to use it!

Let's goooo 😎🤟🎸... Now I've been playing around with making up tones in my Headrush MX5 it's time to make it sound like I know what I'm doing.... Or not 😅🤣

lick 2 is awesome very jazzy i can play it very slowly hahah

On Lick #7 when you are doing the sweeps are you letting those notes ring out while you sweep? Watching your fingers it does not look like they release, super cool!

bernth

Thanks for asking, yes this is explained at 10:42 and in the full course I made on my modular picking technique: https://www.patreon.com/posts/203-this-guitar-59381490 Hope this helps :)

Hello! I know this doesn't have anything to do with the video but can someone help me find a lesson? I'm trying to find a lesson that had an exercise that was double picking chord notes while doing a progression, not sure if I'm explaining properly but I'm trying to find that pack of exercises without success :D EDIT: the chords in the progression were Cm, D7b5, Ebmaj7, F7...

Try it anyways, you will grow on stuff you are not yet ready to do only :-)

I have been giving the first 2 a go I’m actually surprised I’m not doing too bad Thanks bro

my thoughts exactly haha---back to the 30-day courses for me

Are you doing the finger rolling for all your sweep picking or just this one lick? What's odd is now I'm getting faster at the upstroke than the downstroke. Just looking to improve that speed and fluidity. I'm digging these new lessons BTW.

bernth

I do this for all licks that require barring, to me it's the fastest and easiest way as soon as you can separate the notes :)

My style is a mix of Pink Floyd, Eagles with some Pearl Jam…so zero metal. Yet, have found these workouts to transform my playing in all areas. Ie. Lick #2 is amazing at any speed for any genre.

I like the guanine nitrogenous base structure in the transitions between licks...so organic : ) Thanks for the video!!!

I joined BERNTH's patreon for this lesson. Awesome licks!
