Time for another 30-day challenge, my friends! You voted for a 30-day rhythm guitar course, and I'm happy to finally present it to you today after a lot of work :)

I want to motivate you even more to complete this challenge, so I'm sending one of my favorite guitars to the best entry - find out all about this in the video above!

Here's the link to the full Modern Rhythm Guitar Course with all your files (video play-alongs, backing tracks, instructional videos, tabs, guitar pro): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1r3I9FYR2YQinf1kZRjVramxxOWiHQDcU?usp=sharing

And here's how to be part of the challenge (deadline: February 12th):
• Make sure that you're subscribed to be qualified for this challenge

• Upload a video of this riff played at 220BPM to your favorite social media platform (tag me!)

• Either use the backing tracks and files I made for you on Patreon or a metronome/your own backing track

PS: Here's a Dropbox link in case Google Drive doesn't work for you: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/8io7ziifjs90mcx/AABsxvSbf7KtGwEeRDylHR9oa?dl=0

PPS: This is not a Patreon exclusive contest, that would be against the guidelines - the video goes public on YouTube tomorrow :) But you all get a headstart, hope it helps!

Wow, thank you Bernth! This is an amazing opportunity! I wish success to everyone and myself in this difficult 30-day journey!)

drooooooool :P~~~

Exactly what I needed 🔥🔥

Anonymous

Awesome lesson and prize to win

Anonymous

Great challenge, fantastic prize. 2022 here we go.

Anonymous

How do you play dead notes I just can’t do it

Anonymous

Niiiiiice! 😍

Anonymous

It's basically in the name - you kill the note. You can practice by taking a chord and lifting the fingers little by little and strumming. You'll hear the different sweet spots. Then it's just rinse and repeat and practice to get it done at speed. :)

Anonymous

YES!!! 🥳🥳🥳

Anonymous

challenge accepted! :)

Anonymous

Hm... not too complicated to be honest. So maybe I'll join ;) But... do one have to play it EXACTLY like you do? For example I just noticed (after already playing along the whole thing) that you are doing alternate picking in the dead note section... Something I naturally played with downstrokes - so I was this surprised after I saw this. Also my guitar is on a 1 step down tuning - so I have to play in other freting positions than you do in the video (like I am doing with all your stuff of course. Tuning a guitar with floyd rose to standard tuning every time would be just tooooo annoying and of course I want to practice on my main guitar) So would that be ok, too?

Anonymous

Just try! Even if it doesn't work out, you don't lose anything! But you will get 3 times more! Be the best!

Anonymous

GAME ON! I will almost certainly not get to 220bpm, but heck, GAME ON ANYWAYS!!! 😎🎸🤟

Anonymous

Love your content and teaching 🤟

Anonymous

can I participate too 🤣🤣??? don't worry !!!! this time I will give up the prize ........ but I will try to record the best version anyway 💪!!!!!

Anonymous

Shouldn't we give this a go without a string dampener? Kind of feel like with it is cheating, but I could be overthinking it.

Anonymous

I really REALLY like the guitar pro files with the bass and drums added!

Anonymous

Yessss, super awesome!!!

bernth

I'm not using a string dampener, it's on the headstock and not on the strings. You won't get nice sounding open notes with a string dampener, which is what most of this riff is :)

Anonymous

Bernth I want to ask that can we have camera angle cuts? In the video clip we upload or it should be a one continuous shot?

Anonymous

It will be hard but not impossible. Just try to improve our skills :)

Anonymous

Really nice, thank you for the content and teaching Bernth. I don`t know it`s just a me thing, but exercice 1 100 BPM cuts off in the the middle at 1:46... that`s also a nice muting technique, but unwanted I guess;)

Anonymous

Same here, the audio drops out in the playalong video after that point. (The backing track is full length, though)

Anonymous

To avoid any "you did multiple takes!"-submissions, it should be a single viewpoint imho. But nothing prevents you from doing two cuts, I guess. One for the entry and one artistic. :)

Anonymous

Another awesome course! <3 Just increased my membership level, as well. Wohooo! :D

bernth

Thanks so much for the amazing support and for being so active in our community Robert!! :)

Anonymous

Game on! Just finished the 30 Day Picking Workout and still working on the Legato, Hand Synchronization, Alternate Picking Masterclass and Sweep Picking challenge... oh well, I guess some extra exercise won't work! Might be joining the contest as well... I'm not used to film & post myself, but this is one kickass guitar, and I was about to upgrade my Ibanez... ;-)

Anonymous

Bernth are you going to announce the winner when this is over?

Anonymous

I'm gonna win this challenge. 💪🏻🤘🏻

Anonymous

Hi, is the backing track in the 30 day course?

Anonymous

Sweeeeet

Anonymous

I need this guitar and I'll get it.

Anonymous

Pretty awesome course, and ofcourse a super cool challenge with a great reward! I have started practising with the 30 day course and on the first day I could barely play the 100 BPM riff. Just 3 days in I am getting more comfortable and 120 BPM and have already tried some takes at 140 BPM. Not sure if I'll attempt the challenge, but very happy with the progress I've made so far! :)

Anonymous

Thanks God it ends on the12th February! Or I would definitely spend Valentine's Day practicing to this challenge!

Anonymous

I was able to play along all the way to 220 after about 170 it gets crazy and it’s sloppy but I can’t believe I can do it Only worked on it for about half an hr Didn’t worry about the course just straight to the hard stuff haha Now I’ll go give the course a go

Anonymous

Quick question about the 1st exercise. With the 2nd half alternate picking bar (switching between palm muting and regular) I am struggling to keep the palm muted upstroke consistent. I am experimenting between sliding my hand up and down the fret board which can feel awkward or lifting my hand off and on the fret board which also doesn't feel right. Has anyone got any tips or recommendations of lessons? Specifically switching between on and off the palm muting.

Anonymous

Philipp hello! Leave your hand in one place and start working out the movements very slowly so that you control every nuance! 2. No pinching in the hand, control the relaxed movement of the hand! After that, alternate - very slowly - moderately - at the pace of the exercise! And remember, practice decides everything!! Have a great day!

Anonymous

Hey bernth, i have a question for the giveaway challenge, do the tone matter???????? Because my equipment is like 100€ for the guitar and the amp together, thats why i want this guitar.

Anonymous

That sounds exactly like my situation lol 🤘🤘 best of luck to ya!

Anonymous

Nevertheless, I‘d like to know which preset of which EZMix package you used for this one, Bernth! 😉

Anonymous

Better watch out, pushed past 190 comfortably on the first attempt, hehe. The trickiest part for me is the triplets at higher speed. My "comfort zone" is around 170, so I got a bit practice to do - but it's exactly the type of excercise I need to sand off the rough edges. No video yet, but will probably do one when I'm clothed. :P

Anonymous

Hi, Bernth. when you say upload and tag you, what are our choices? Youtube? twitter? etc? I can't find you on twitter and I don't know how to tag on youtube. Thanks! edit: I see you said insta, fb, or tiktok. I don't use those. I use youtube but I don't have 500 subs so I can't actually @tag you.

Anonymous

Excellent exercises .. as always .. but you might as well just have said to me "hey, look at this nice guitar that you will never touch" .. LOL .. Sorry Bernth, I am working hard to learn from your material (some of the best material there is), but there is no way on Earth I could win this guitar. Saweeet guitar though. I would like to go ahead and congratulate the winner. You now own a very nice guitar, treat it well!! You're the greatest Bernth!

bernth

It's easy to tag on Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook - but I also check YouTube for any uploads with my name in it :)

Anonymous

Hey Bernth, I have started doing the course and I have a question: Day 1-5 \ Exercise 1: Dead Notes vs Palm Muting: I noticed to the Video Play-Along that when you do the dead notes you move your hand a little bit backwards and when you do the palm mute you move your hand a little bit forward, closer to the bridge - I guess because you touch slightly your hand to the bridge to do the muting. Do you do the dead notes by just muting the strings with your left hand or do you use the right hand as well?

Anonymous

I hope Bernth replies to you...but in the meantime, yes: dead notes are a left hand mute w/out palm, and palm mute is a right hand technique w/out the left hand. Good luck!

Anonymous

I give it a Try :)

Anonymous

https://youtu.be/k8FS03CnEvk Check it out! Have to say it was a great idea and very entertaining during Covid quarantine!

Anonymous

About a week ago 120 was hard, now I am able to do 150 (sometimes). Probably won't make it to 220 in time, but I will keep trying :D Super pleased with the progress so far!!

bernth

That's really awesome Megan, thanks for sharing your progress!! :)

Anonymous

Pretty clear at this point I won't be able to get it up to temp in time for the give-away. Will probably post my best attempt anyways who knows lol :)

bernth

Yes make sure to share it Aaron, can't wait to check it out :)

Anonymous

Yeah, so now after endless takes and lots of crappy ones, I think I got one that is still not perfect, but I feel I need to share something after days annoying my wife ... That's the single riff https://youtu.be/4stwTbV9KO4 And now that's some improvisation over the theme. Much room for improvement, but hey, that's why I am here %-D https://youtu.be/6B6kJ005tsY Please notice the backing track with slightly different bass line 8-) Cheers, Alex PS: There are still some days ahead to improve it ;-)

Anonymous

I was only going to try your patreon for a month. My wife said I've gotten so much better in a month that I better keep my membership going. I can't believe what a difference its making. "learning" the riff at 120 was impossible. I had to drop it down to around 50 bpm. Now I am comfortable at 180. Holy Crap dude! Thanks

Anonymous

The best part of this contest is getting to see all of the videos you guys and gals are creating .. come on .. more videos!!! .. I'm having the most fun watching what you create. Great stuff!!!

Anonymous

Hi BERNTH! I have a question. I post video for challenge on Facebook with your tag. How do i know that you see it? (Sorry for bad English)

Guys any tips for the tremolo picking on lower strings?? It's quite easy to do on higher strings but on the lower ones I am really struggling...

bernth

Hey Marco, I discussed the difference in performance on lower/higher strings a bit here (with a suggested fix), hope this helps: https://www.patreon.com/posts/198-3-picking-57884181

Anonymous

Thanks Bernth for the tip, it help a lot. In the end i got to 200 bpm. Super happy with the result.

What if I can't even conquer day one on day one?
