Hello my friends, I just wanted to thank you for an amazing year with this video! We became the world's #1 music community on Patreon, we reached 200 episodes, we all worked hard this year - but this is STILL just the beginning! :)

That's why I wanted to ask you this: what do you want to see on this platform next year? Leave a comment, it could be anything :) I want to make you all even happier and I want this to be the ultimate community for us guitar nerds.

And as I promised in the video, here are the links to the music theory lessons I featured in today's YouTube compilation:

Hi Bernth. I hope you're having a verte good time. What do you recommend me to liberate tension in my strumming hand? I've been trying to, but that is very hard for me. Can You help me, please?

Anonymous

Hi Bernth! Thanks a lot for all the help! I've actually never been this good at guitar and it's quite amazing to have been able to share it with my family and friends these holidays! I would love to see some exercises for playing cleanly, without that buzz that happens specially when playing fast. I've followed some of the tips on your videos and they've helped, though I'm still getting that annoying dirty sound at times. Thanks a lot again and happy holidays!

Anonymous

I'd really like to see some more Patreon member colab videos. I find them inspiring. And... P.Y.R.O.T.E.C.H.N.I.C.S! We need to see some FIRE! >:D

Anonymous

Bernth, congrats on a fantastic 2021. In the middle of all this crap going on I found solace in your lessons and seeing my playing improve over the year. Thank you. For 2022 I'd like to see lessons on constructing solos. Especially 1 and 2 octave runs over multiple chords. How can I take the theory and the finger work and turn it into awesome solos? Here's to an awesome 2022!

Anonymous

Love to see an active Xcell spreadsheet with the links to all your vids and lessons. With the added feature of a level system associated with each lesson. This way we could self assign ourselves personal levels to work on and than target those lessons in our level range. Just an idea to consider. Regardless, you vids and lessons have helped me rekindle my addiction to the guitar and increased my ability in too many directions to type about!

Anonymous

Thanks Bernth for your hard work and awesome content. After not knowing what to practice I fumbled through some boring or poorly explained video lessons until I found your channel and now I haven't looked back! Next year I'd like to see something about hand exercises or stretches etc we could do when we don't have a guitar in front us - like on a lunch break or in a boring work meeting ;)

Anonymous

Congratulations and happy new year. I know fingers and hands get a great workout everyday using your excercises. I think I'd be cool to watch some reaction videos to certain songs and such. Maybe some fun videos where you try gear or pedals you normally wouldn't. Just have something fun for entertainment from time time to time to give my hands a break. Or not. I guess we can't get better if we stop practicing. In any case, thanks for the great community and I can't wait to see what we get next.

Anonymous

This channel is absolutely amazing. I’m glad I came across this. Been stuck in a rut with my playing and your videos just kinda made everything click. Thank you for everything!

Anonymous

Congratulations and happy New Years! I’m so glad I found this channel as I was having no progress and felt stuck but since I’ve joined I’ve been seeing results and improvements. I would love to see some math rock/ math metal techniques stuff for next year.

bernth

Hey Oskar, did you check out this one yet? It should definitely help: https://www.patreon.com/posts/90-these-3-will-37912263

Hi, just joined recently and although I'm not a shredder per say, I've joined to help increase my speed and hand synchronization and I loved the theory lessons, currently working on Alternate Picking Masterclass. It would be great to have a common way that everyone could track their progress in BPM and maybe have a badge system that summarizes your level or ability, something to gauge your progress against and motivate you to keep pushing upward to get to that next rank!

congratz bernth i cant wait for another year of this amazing music and the best teacher helping me along my journey , thank you for everything looking forward to whats to come , bring on some string bending and a jazz course either way im stoked to have found this community , happy new year bernth

Happy almost New Year! Firstly, thank you for your videos and lessons! My playing and practice regiment has made huge progress this year. I think for a topic which could be a series or masterclass, song writing. Going through your process from start to finish. Would be a longer series, but I think many problems with guitarists who get stuck on just doing technique and not applying to writing their own material. Could be a fun series and perhaps you start a Discord Channel so Patreon members can share their songs using your advice from each video? I've been doing similar "song challenge" on Bart Hennephof's (Textures) Patreon. We're currently on song challenge 5 and it's been extremely helpful with song writing and chatting with members all over the world. Cheers!

I wasnt even practicing before 2 years and now with your channel i improved more than i improved all tha 8 years i am playing the guitar, your even better than my guitar teacher, anyway, thank and i hope this year shred

Anonymous

Hi Bernth - Awesome work, such a pleasure shreding with you :)! I could be fun, if you made a "30 day lick builder", with one exotic scale each week, and creativ ideas to that scale ;)

Anonymous

First of all, thank you for the amazing lessons and relentless tempo in which you release them! I love the playalongs especially, feels a lot less lonely when playing the same pattern for 20 minutes straight haha Ideas: A course on shred improvisation! I know that's kinda broad but I feel I need a way to apply all that fancy Technik that I've been lernung this past year! Also, a Daumen camera showing what's going on there in the playalong videos? And lastly, how about the shredder's guilty pleasure: scales? A full course on maybe all the modal scales, understanding them better and showing how to use them in our playing? Using only the melodic minor is kinda boring after 3 decades ;)

Anonymous

Happy New Year! I progressed so much since I became a Patreon member and had my daily practice routine… Hoping to see a 30 day crash course for amazing solo tricks: dive bombs, Harmonic squeals, Pick Scraping,…

Anonymous

Hi Bernth! Last three months (since I joined) have made a huge difference in my playing.. It would be awesome if you could teach us some licks.. metal rock blues jazz... And a course on the basics of how to build them! Looking forward to 2022

Anonymous

thank you so much for this straight forward content! i'm following you on youtube for a while now but became a patreon like a month ago and love all the additional content and files you provide us here. i really hope to get some kind of daily routine up so i achieve an ongoing progress in getting better! so this actually might be the first thing i'd love to see from you: putting together a workout/practice routine. daily/weekly goals (so a shorter timespan than your 30-day-workouts). what is your practice routine? a video or series on how to combine different warmups exercises and how to create a (smart) plan for a week. other thing i'd love to see are some more lick-oriented contend! might be something from your own songs or some »inspired by« licks and how to take inspiration from the stuff that's already there in musics history. last thing might be another chord/riff/melody lesson – better said the kind of jazz-guitar approach on building melodies through chords on a distorted guitar. i know some of the topics you already talked about but i think there is so much more to explore and i'm looking forward to seeing more for you! enjoy the last days of the year, take some time off, refuel your energy and a happy new year! thank you for your content.

Anonymous

Firstly Thank you I’m in a different position than most I am finding exercises difficult due to arthritis but I love trying them and seeing how far I can go So as unhelpful as this might be .. keep doing what you do and I’m so pleased for you that your number one You deserve it !!

Anonymous

Hey buddy, happy festivities and stuff! Just a thought for next year, how about a step back from speed and maybe some things around phrasing, alternative pentatonic and embracing that blues edge to spice up when the fast comes in? Cheers and all the best

Anonymous

Thank you! happy new year. New to practicing with you but really like what I am seeing so far. would like to see more chord stuff, inversions, progressions etc. maybe different modes over chords. also would like to see some of the scale already available over the entire neck to learn different scale position. Thanks again for making us better humans

Anonymous

I am good at doing exercises and my technique is improving a lot. But at times I find it hard to take the technique acquired with, say sweeping, and use it in improvisation. Basically, about bridging technique and musicality.

Anonymous

The 30 day courses and challenges are amazing Sweep, legato , economy, alternate, etc. I say expand on each of these courses with a secondary more advanced version. With new more complex and challenging excersizes for each. Thank sir. You are THE Instructor.

Anonymous

Thank you for all the awesome practice lessons and routines for the year. You've been a massive help and inspiration to me and my playing. I'd love to hear about your personal inspiration and what drives your creativity. Thanks again, and I wish you continued success in the new year!

Anonymous

The only other music teacher i had was my band teacher in school, 30 years ago lol. You are the second, and i have learned 100x more from you🤘👽🤘 I will never be able to thank you enough, good Sir!🙏 I really like the 30 day Courses, they are sooooo helpful!!! It would be fun to do some more Collab videos. I haven't submitted anything yet for previous vids, but i am feeling confident enough to try!!! Which is something you give to alot of other shredders too, Confidence!! That is something that is priceless to have gaines from you and this shred community 🤘👽🤘 See you next year, Teach

Anonymous

Thanks so much for everything so far, pal! You put a lot of thought, heart and work in your content and it really shows... As a beginner, your courses are already helping greatly - both with technique and inspiration - and I have but scratched the surface of them 🎸😎🤟 Wishing you and Nata a wonderful Holiday season and an even more spectacular 2022! 🙏🥂🔥

Anonymous

Oh and content wise... I think it'd be awesome to dissect solos/technical bits of classics shred songs in terms of existing course content... Bridging that gap on how the technique training fits into playing music... But I get there are copyright implications - but we can all dream haha 😎🤟 maybe collabs, since we are the #1 Patreon guitar community? 🤔😅

Anonymous

I've been chasing this kind of playing since I started playing the guitar at age 14, and I am 47 now. I have an alternate picking technique that isn't bad, a downstroke escape mechanism, and it seems to work pretty well. However, this has highlighted my poor left hand, particularly my 4th finger. I don't know if it is just lack of consistent practice, getting older, poor hand positioning, or a combination of all these things. I would like some kind of coordinated left hand approach, eg 3 nps scales and sequences, as well as legato type patterns - I know you have done a legato course already. Any help with this would be great!

Anonymous

Thanks for all your hard work, Bernth. Wishing you a happy new year.

Anonymous

Could you do a lesson on pinch harmonics, its something I struggle to hit, thanks in advance

Anonymous

I loved the course packages you stared offering this year, especially the 30 day technique workouts. Those have really helped me in staying focused and knowing exactly what to practice without getting distracted by the sea of information we have our there :D would really like to see more of those packages. Can't wait to see more from you in the upcoming year!

Anonymous

30 day workouts were fun, would like to see More arpeggios, solo techniques. and this one is a bit different but to me is one of those things you need but dont know you need it Flamenco style picking exercises

Anonymous

Bernth, Felices Fiestas! Thank you for all the great material this year, it has real helped me tremendously in my guitar journey! Specially the 30 day courses. Again, thank you and long live the Shred Community!

Anonymous

More music theory especially how to use scales thanks

Anonymous

I’d love a “trade solos with Bernth” series. Create a chord progression and backing track, then trade solos (with your own analysis of your solos) in order to help us understand how to apply what we’re learning from your exercises in a musical context (which I find just as difficult as the technical skills).

Anonymous

Big fan of the 30 day workouts. I would love to see some content for extended range guitars (7 / 8 String / Baritone) Thanks a lot and happy new year!

Anonymous

Congratulations on a great year, Bernth! I am SO happy I joined your Patreon group. I've tried others, but only you and Ben Eller provide the exercises and instruction that are truly helpful for me, both theory and practical. I'm not sure what to even ask for since I'm currently working in two areas (alternate picking and sweep picking) and you have already provided so much material to work with! One thing I would LOVE to see would be a breakdown of parts of your songs, including the chord progressions behind them and your thoughts on the melodies and techniques used to create the sections. (Hopefully that makes sense.) See you next year!!

Anonymous

An excellent year indeed. Expressive techniques and ways to practice them would be my suggestion. Thanks a bunch for your hard work and dedication to the channel. Happy new year!

Anonymous

Record your mixing and mastering technique!

Anonymous

Hi Bernth, I'm also supper happy I found your community. You are up there with Paul Gilbert as far as teaching goes. What sets you apart is the play-along videos found in the 30 day courses and challenges. I love these! Having 5 day blocks really helps create structure for practicing. Stick with technique lessons related shredding since this is your niche. I hope you do follow-up 30 day courses and challenges for legato, alternate picking and sweep picking.

Anonymous

Hi Bernth! I struggle with playing clean. If you could show us how you go about playing clean, that would be awesome. Maybe, you can show us the techniques behind it or any tips on playing more clean that way you dont produce unwanted noise. Other than that, videos on music theory would be nice.

Anonymous

Hey Bernth, I find arpeggiated clean lines to be the trickiest, partly because it requires so much more patience and slowing down that heavy chugging rhythm stuff. I also have been mainly focusing on getting my hand synchronization and chops up but would love some more lessons on theory; modes, arpeggios, triads, etc that also work to build technical skills like alternate picking, legato, etc. I really love your content because I feel that it has helped me connect technical abilities to fretboard knowledge / theory more than any other channel. Thank you Bernth! I can't wait to see what 2022 holds.

Anonymous

One day it would be cool, to have a 'how to be a successful guitar teacher on youtube' series. Being a teacher would interest me as well, but it also may be a niche audience

Anonymous

I would love to hear your thoughts on song construction. Your songs are excellent and I am sure you put a lot of thought into how you structure each part. In particular, how you transition from one theme to the next. Thanks - really learning a lot!

Anonymous

I have really enjoyed the progression of this community and the lessons you have created. I think the best thing has been the 30-day course work, where the skills can be easily implemented into a practice plan. Some things that might be interesting for the coming year, examples base on some great lessons - * 150 was a great overview and intro to exotic scales - maybe expand that to a monthly special where the scale is broken down, applied, and identify the success and pitfalls of each of those * 169 - such a great package - revisit and expansion? * 186 - would love to see each of those elements in their own deep dive or 30 day courses to help drill the concepts into my head :) * 102 (going back a year) - this can be with any of the exercises, but application in other *important* scales or modes you believe are a benefit I have to really tell you that exercise 151 is a main stay in my practice routine - it's the first exercise I do - if there was anything that could be updated for that - would be awesome! But it really is a great workout to get you ready for your practice routine each day! Overall - I am here because I find incredible value, and I believe the channel is a gold mine of information. As a student, I am motivated by each lesson regardless of the target skill level. There is always something new to be learned. Thank you!

Anonymous

Hey there yes I agree an amazing year for us!!! Would like information on how you go about tone. Amps, pedals, etc. thanks for all that you do, an amazing source of information and direction!.

Anonymous

The 30 day exercises is an amazing program idea you really need to keep it's an absolute must! Some techniques that i personally would like to see here still would be a bending program, pull-off training, and a hybrid picking program. Thanks for all the amazing lessons, you have opened a lot of musical doors for me the past years already!

Anonymous

Thanks for everything Bernth! you're an awesome teacher and musician and you've definetely changed the way we play and see music! The 30-day course was a great idea! As for the content I'd love to keep seeing, songwriting, music theory, practice routines, more jazz concepts in metal and how to include all these in our songs and daily practice! Many Thanks! and congratulations for all your hard work!

Anonymous

Hi Bernth, would you(would I for proposing?) go to hell for doing a few artist study episodes? may be even non shedders?(there you go). Even maybe perhaps Zappa modes soloing patterns ? Die besten Wünsche für die Zukunft!

Anonymous

Hey! I just joined and just wanna say thank you for you awsome content. I have been struggling with progression and decided to do something about it, i have been on and off for several years but i see myself as a beginner, cus i dont know anything about music theory and i am just bad in general. So here i am excited to join this community. I need some advice on how to properly hold my guitar. I am struggling with backpain, shoulders and hand when playing. i don't understand how you guys can play comfortably, i also have problem with my thumb, it can get rly painfull sometimes. Sry for the long comment and not in so very good english. I am excited to follow your course and hope that will help me with my progression. Cheers from Norway -Øystein edit: and to answer you’r question: I wanna see more 7 strings b standard/ Drop a tuning content. I wanna learn to play clean, mute strings properly and how to make good sound on my guitar and free plugins. I also want to learn how to recognize good sound on my guitar, cus i rly dont know

Anonymous

Agree, i have a 7 stringer myself and would love content in b standard and drop a.

Anonymous

Hi Bernth! What you do is absolutely amazing. For next year, how about more videos on home recording? I suspect many of us would like to learn basics about recording MIDI instruments (drums, etc) and produce our own demos. What about working together with someone to upload some bass guitar lessons for us as well? All with home recording in mind! :)

Anonymous

Hi Bernth, thank you so much for all the content you provide and also being such an idol to follow. I have always prefered it to have a guitar teacher who's a lot better than I am and I'm completely amazed by your skill although you are some days younger than me :-D Regarding the topics: - I'd love to have some rhythm guitar lessons, focussed on things like strumming patterns, chord progressions and so on. A dream would be a connection with songwriting, aka "how to use non-powerchords in a metal song" or "how to build song-parts such as intro, verse, chorus from a certain chord progression". - Apart from that I'd love a video on posture: What angle should your guitar have, what height, how to play standing/sitting etc. But whatever it will be: Please keep the spirit up. Your content motivates me alot to just keep going and keep improving :-)

Anonymous

I love what you do man! Something i would love to have the option to do one on one skype lessons. Maybe a random raffle or a prize contest winning or something like that. Also would love for you to go more into theory as well.

Anonymous

Bernth! My main man! What I would like to do is to be able to share a video with you, in order to get your feedback. I'm thinking maybe once a month? Is this possible?

bernth

Hey Keith, thanks for asking about that! I give student feedback to videos every day in the Facebook group for VIP/Platinum members :)

Anonymous

Hi Bernth, I would like to see more solo and riff to chorus composition ideas as well as more practical example exercises. Also, the 30 day courses are amazing and hope those will continue. I discovered your channel Nov 2020. For most of this year (minus maybe a month total ) I have been practicing for 1 hour a day, 5 days a week. I have made what I feel are amazing gains and I am definitely inspired to keep progressing. Thanks for everything. Also, congratulations on all your amazing accomplishments this year. Happy New Year to you and anyone else who reads this.

Anonymous

Hi Bernth! I wish you a Happy New Shredding Year! Thanks for all your work! From my side, I would like to see one tutorial about your guitar settings: how to improve the guitar playability by the setting (or may I have missed it?).

Anonymous

Hi Bernth! I wish you a Happy New Shredding Year! I have i really learned a lot frome you Thankx.

Anonymous

Thanks for your input! I would really like to see a chord language course - you studied jazz so you probably know a thing or two about unorthodox cadences. It would be nice to have a kind of chord dictionary when writing songs

Anonymous

I would like to see a course on tremolo picking.

Anonymous

In keeping with technique I'd love to see: Correct posture (sitting and standing) Palm muting (inc switching from open to muted)

Anonymous

Another in relation to the Patreon page would be to introduce more grouping esp with the technique section. Break it into more defined groups For those looking to target certain techniques it would greatly assist in finding the relative lessons.

Anonymous

Sorry.... One more hehehe It would be good to have the upstroke and downstroke symbols on the PDFs. Whilst I don't use them too much as I prefer the play alongs and gp5 files I think it would help those that prefer the PDFs

Anonymous

The 30 day courses are great and would be good to continue and have certain topics from beginner to more advanced.

Anonymous

Hello! Happy new year <3 I also support the tremolo picking idea!

MD Ziglar

In the few months since I subscribed my playing has improved quite a bit. These courses & exercises work well. I’d like see a little time (no pun intended) invested into odd, irregular, etc, time signatures.

Anonymous

Any more advice/tips to share on changing pick angles at high speeds... such as example 3 of the alternate picking masterclass? Feels like my hand is moving too much to change the angles, which is slowing me down and defeating the purpose. I understand the concept and value of changing the angles... I can't yet wrap my head around how you're able to get such economy of motion to execute the angle changes so fast. Thanks!

bernth

Thanks for asking about this Scott! I'd love to dive deeper into this topic, let's see how the votings go :) Overall, it's a very subtle movement at the very fast tempos - I'd love to show it up close with a couple of new examples and exercises!

Anonymous

Hello Bernth, Thanks for your passion and happy new year ! If you could do some more vidéos about how improve your dexterity with the left hand (fretting hand), if possible from " beginners" to advanced - i love your 10 level style vidéos, but you can also make several videos in a course like you did for the picking hand anyway thanks for your devotion, the guitar gods must be very proud of you !

Anonymous

Hi Bernth, Happy New Year! I think your own songs are amazing and quite unique in so many ways. Yet because of their complexity, right now they are like black boxes to me. One thing I would love to see more in the future is a more detailed discussion of their overall structure, mode, chords, techniques used, and the ideas/rationale you had while you were composing them. I know you have discussed some riffs, and techniques of some of them already but I think you could choose one song every given amount of time and go through all of it with us, including in part of the live sessions. Those are my two cents.

Anonymous

Hello Bernth and fellow guitar shredders, for me i would be greatly interested in a 30-day challenge aimed at selective picking :D, seems like a cool technique, having a course which would take from the beginner stuff to something more musically applicable would be amazing.

Anonymous

Hello Bernth, thank you for your lessons! I would like to see more Sweep picking lessons in 2022

Anonymous

Do you offer acoustic guitar lessons

Anonymous

Love your music and guitar lessons. They are really hard at the final level. How many BPM do I need to do to get away with playing in a band as lead more or less vs rhythm. What other essential skills do I need to play in a band as a lead and/or rhythm guitarist?
