In this episode of Bow & Blade, Michael and Kelly look at how the imperial army of Frederick Barbarossa and a Milanese force suddenly encounter each other in northern Italy. How would this battle change the Holy Roman Empire's plans for Italian conquest?

Great episode! Could Micheal and Kelly have a look at the 1565 Great Siege of Malta (Order of St John vs Ottomans). I know it is not strictly speaking medieval, but it is close enough. I would love to hear them talk about my home country of Malta! Thanks

Looking very forward to your relook of Poitiers. Just finished Michael’s book on Agincourt. And now that a paperback is out, have finally been able to order the book about the Siege of Rhodes that Kelly contributed to. For the Q&A: You mentioned in the Bannockburn and Agincourt episodes about setting terms for a siege, “If not relieved by X date, then we’ll surrender.” Is this one of the reasons why there wasn’t more of an effort to maintain a professional engineer or sapper troop? Because it was easier to just wait it out and accept a surrender than to spend the money maintaining the siege equipment to try and force a quick(er) resolution?
