Two things that are quite easy to miss; 1. The lag attack towards the end that Yuji did was the first cursed energy attack he learned in Season 1 before Todo taught him Black Flash. Since it has a delay no one expects it the first time it happens. 2. The leg shake incident right before, I think it was because Mahito triggered Sukuna with his domain and he came out for a second to do one of the slash attacks. That's why one of his elbow blades smashed.

It was said in season 1 by Nanami that Mahito is still a baby curse who’s trying to learn how to use his CT and why they had to kill him then as while being that fresh he was already special grade and a massive threat for the future if they couldn’t kill them then which was correct
