The reason he got angry was because he had made a lot of decisions under the influence that he thought cancer would kill him. And with the recent news about the cancer being gone, he realized he was going to have to face life after the decisions he made.

I think he wanted to die because he can right his wrong by giving them the money and not be found out. I think he doesn't want to get caught because he wants to keep his image and not have it tarnished by something that was bad that had good motives. Being alive means he has to face the music but also has to burry the weight of the anxiety he feels from them finding out what he has done.
