If this is the end for this show, for me the joker card symbolize their "get out of death" free card, in many games the joker card is used as a "cheat" to win a hand you shouldn't be able to. So it could mean they had the joker card as a reward for clearing all the games and used it to be brought back

When I finished the series this is what I got from it maybe I'm wrong I don't know but its a good theory: When the meteorite/comet struck, if you look closely before it hits, it splits in threes now hear me out this could mean The Father, The Son, the Holy Spirit. When it hit, their souls got teleported to PURGATORY which is the land between Heaven and Hell where humans expiate their sins. All while this is happening, in the other world they're FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES in the hospital AND in this world. It takes the meaning to another perspective because they're indeed fighting for their lives playing these games and it banked on whether they died during these games so that they could come back to life in their original world. I hope that makes sense.

The name also hints at it being Purgatory: Since borders are made to separate 2 lands, the "Borderland" which is on the border is hinted at it being in the middle.

This series was amazing. Season 3 is rumored and I hope it's a prequel about Mira and the Kings and Queens. In the manga Mira(Queen of Hearts), Kyumma(King of Clubs), King of Spades and King of Diamonds were all friends when they were players and chosed to become the new face cards after clearing their games. If Arisu Usagi, Chisaya, and Aguni accepted residence they would have became the Kings and Queen in the next game.

Idk if yall reading this this late, but after watching the series i went back to the last couple manga chapters to get some clarification: After completing the games arisu actually got to "talk" with a shadow creature thing (joker) which he theorized to be kind of an overseer of the borderland. So idk why in the show they added the joker card in reality and left the part out in the borderland. We also get a chapter with an interviewer interviewing survivors of the meteorite 10 or so years later. There we see Arisu aswell and he's being called by usagi showing they are in a relationship. Id really recommend reading the last 2-3 chapters of the manga, you might not recognize some people but its done quick and really interesting tbh.
