Nagi faked a shot and just tapped the ball then once Rin fell for the fake he shot it.

Nagi basically pretended he was going to shoot the volley but instead sliced the ball enough to "control" it so it would still stay in front of him. A way to visually describe it is think of it as his fake shot (the first stage) as a juggle touch (like when soccer players juggle the ball in the ball in the air) but instead of using the top of his foot to juggle it he sliced it so it really looked like he shot the ball. Then the second stage was the actual volley. Therefore the two stage fake volley lmao. Its hard to visualize for ppl who dont play soccer but I love that about blue lock when it references real life shit
