In the episode where they revealed that Lisa Lisa had the red stone, Kars said he needed the mask in order to conquer the sun. The red stone was needed because the masks weren't strong enough to pierce their brains.

What I didn’t like when watching this is; In general, if a viewer pays attention, then u realize that Lisa Lisa is JoJo’s mum once she says she’s the baby Erina rescued. The reveal in the episode didn’t hit when I watched this episode

Kars is a realist, he has a goal and he'll do whatever it takes to reach it. The reason he didn't kill them when they first met is because they were bugs that were no threat to him and he had much more important things to worry about. The reason he didn't kill them in the arena is because Lisa Lisa can still destroy the stone, and because Wammu is his friend and wanted to fight.
