So mel and her mom are from a place called Noxus. She is a leader from that place and it is a major part in the LoL lore. Piltover/Zaun and Noxus are separate regions. I assume that those rose people are some enemy faction in Noxus or another place that killed her son?

There are official maps of the world of Runeterra online, so you can check them out if you want to have an idea about region, their sizes and stuff ! If you just look at it without going into details, I believe they are spoiler free, it's just a world map

The League of Legends universe its huge guys, i guess this have been told many times before but all zones we watch here are within official maps we could say regions, like Zaun & Piltover, Demacia, Noxus, and many more wich are interconnected by lore or characters then within the regions are races like humans, semi-humans, half this half that, yordles, and more. The weapons and items are usable in the game, feels so cool because we were like reading (playing the game) the manga and got Arcane wich would be the anime in this case but we never really got to see exact same stories or interactions in a concrete chapter type format, just teases and fragments of lore we could read brought from the game and watching it animated we get to see the characters we use to play and main like our faves come to live, the items being used and easter eggs we can detect like its so fun watching Arcane being a LoL player, i do not recommend it after close to 10 years playing

You got a lot of the general ideas right. Once you understand Ambessa's main objective and the corresponding sub-objective, everything becomes very clear. Ambessa (Mel's mom) is having trouble against enemies in Noxus; s2 act 1 revealed that specifically it's the Black Rose. Ambessa's main objective is dealing with the Black Rose. In order to deal with the Black Rose, her sub-objective is trying to get her hands on hextech weaponry, presumably mass produced for her army. Emphasis on mass production. This is everything we know so far up until S2 EP3, perhaps there will be more revealed later on (I haven't watched S2 EP4 yet either). ___________________END__________________________ If you are curious about the details: Ambessa has tried to get her hands on hextech weaponry by trying to convince Piltover to go to war with Zaun (or The Lanes). Piltover undergoing full scale war would mean they would have to manufacture mass produced hextech weaponry sooner or later, as long as the war is brutal enough. She has tried to intigate war multiple times in season 1 by talking to Jayce, Mel, and the Council, but to no avail (in large part thanks to Mel). Jinx blows up the Council at the end of season 1, Ambessa uses this incident and uses Salo to convince the surviving council members to agree to invade Zaun. Mel is outvoted 2-1 so Piltover will finally invade Zaun. However, Mel manages to convince the council that: 1) hextech weaponry will not be mass produced, 2) Piltover will invade Zaun to hunt down Jinx, and 3) they will put a bounty on Jinx for Zaunites to hunt Jinx too. Because Ambessa's goal of mass produced Hextech weaponry is thwarted, she instigates the war further by baiting the Chembaron (Zaun woman that lost her son) to enact terrorism during the memorial. At the end of S2 EP3, she successfully puts a vengeful Caityln onto the seat and everything is pointing toward war.
