I totally agree, the protagonist did well to act with empathy in reassuring her. Especially considering Part 1 of this character where she takes care of him after a hard day at work. A woman who treats a man like a king deserves to be treated like a queen. (google translates from french to english as always)

Yes especially when he knows she is feeling vulnerable. She may or may not have a valid reason (Vary’s nicely nuanced performance leaves this for the listener to interpret ) but his first loyalty should still be towards her.
