Fun fact: R. Lee Ermy was an actual drill sergeant before he pivoted to playing drill sergeants, and parodies of drill sergeants, in movies. He got the role in Fullmetal Jacket after sending an audition tape to Stanley Kubrick of him doing his drill sergeant rant while being pelted with tennis balls and not even pausing his speech.

Let me guess; the copyrighted music playing over the intro was Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son”?! I swear, every Vietnam-era media piece was legally obligated to use that song! That, or “Paint it Black” when shit’s about to go south! 🤣
