Thank you guys so much for 1,000 subscribers! I'm honestly amazed at how fast this channel has grown since it's inception. I started doing YouTube videos early December 2018 and now it's May 2020. That's about a year and a half to get to 1,000 subscribers!
It's such a weird feeling looking back and remembering when I uploaded my first video. It took forever to get even 100 views back then. I remember taking a screenshot when my first video counter hit 50 views because I was so proud that I got 50 people to watch my video. It wasn't long before I uploaded my 2nd and 3rd videos, which surprisingly enough, blew up my channel in an astounding way!
After releasing my covers for Face My Fears and SICKO MODE, I was gaining an enormous amount views daily (relatively). Fun fact: My channel hasn't reached those numbers in terms of popularity ever since (I'm getting close though). Those two videos definitely helped get my channel off the ground. But with all that success, I started to feel the pressure.
My next three covers flopped. One of them hasn't even reached 1,000 views yet. I was chasing views, keywords, and clout - constantly checking billboard and trending pages to see what song would catch on next. I even did an Old Town Road cover. When I saw how fast my numbers were going down from the Face My Fears and SICKO MODE days, I started to feel discouraged. Moreover, I was not really enjoying covering the songs that I had selected. In an attempt to grow my channel, I had lost the vision and passion I had that led me to start the channel in the first place. Over the next 6 months I would only release 2 videos.
After that hiatus, when I came back, I decided to take a different approach to my song selection. I would pick one song that was "popular" or "trending" and alternate with one song that I personally like the next week. After all, I started this YouTube channel for fun so I should at least do music that I enjoy.
This approach to song selection, combined with a more consistent upload schedule, was vital in helping me get to 1,000 subscribers. Funny thing is, this channel has somehow grown into a Persona piano channel. None of the "trendy" covers I made really caught on, but the music I was really passionate about seemed to resonate with others! This definitely worked out for the best because now I get to cover music that I love and I have an audience that has the same taste as me!
I know this post is getting pretty long now but YouTube still hasn't given me a community tab so this is really my only way to "blog." My YouTube journey isn't over yet - in fact it's just begun. But so far I've learned so much... For anyone out there who's reading this: stay true to yourself and believe in yourself. Thanks again to everyone who watches and comments on my videos, my awesome subscribers, and my beloved patrons over at Patreon.
P.S. Persona fans, what other music would you guys like to see on the channel? I am quite enjoying being a Persona piano channel, and am planning on doing P4 and P3 covers as well. However, one day I will probably run out of songs to cover! I'd like to see where our interests overlap. Thanks!
Until next time ✌,
