Sex Arcade: Black Cat [SKETCHES] (Patreon)
Content
Hey there folks,
I've got a little oddity to share with you this week, though I can't be sure it'll ever lead to anything final. Let me know if you think this is something I should continue.
Some of you may be familiar with the artist Sabu and his long-running Sex Arcade saga -- a series of pin-ups of fan-favorite waifus from every universe (DC, Marvel, Disney, Anime, Video Games, etc) who are abducted and held prisoner in an open-air sex market. The women are usually bound into some sort of high-tech stockade and presented for free use, and while there's no real overarching narrative, the artist has added so much detail and world-building through his paintings that it feels like a real place.
I've always found it to be a fascinating idea and for a long time I've tried to think of ways to do a comic narrative in that universe, or something similar to it. What would the operations and behind-the-scenes structures of an organization like this look like? How would agents from the Sex Arcade go about abducting their targets, and what would their introduction be like?
Within the last year I whipped up a short intro of a few pages that could lead to a much longer, larger story, using Felicia Hardy, the Black Cat, as my subject. The comic would begin with Felicia and Spider-Man meeting on a rooftop -- Peter is freaking out because Mary Jane has gone missing and he needs help to find her. But before they can go any further, robotic agents from the Sex Arcade step through an inter-dimensional portal to abduct Felicia, killing Peter in the process. Before long, Felicia will meet the founder of the Sex Arcade and learn that she's about to become its newest attraction, and along the way she'll meet the other unfortunate denizens of the bazaar, featuring faces from across the multiverse (including, of course, Mary Jane herself, who had been abducted weeks before).
I never got along to finishing this story, or even getting much further than the intro you see here. A story like this would require a lot of planning and a ton of detail -- as I said, the detail and worldbuilding is what made Sabu's series so special, and if I didn't do my best to evoke that, this comic would be a failure. So it would take a significant investment of time and energy to continue this story.
What do you think? Would it be worth it?
Cheers,
Peg
