Ahoy hoy! Hiya newbies, and hello again to longtime listeners.

Here’s what’s coming up in August:

  • Time to call in the consultants. McKinsey are doing a full audit of Bungacast. Actually, wrong way around: we're discussing why states are so dependent on outsourcing.
  • Is Australia - and New Zealand - stuck at the End of History? We talk to Shahar Hameiri and Tom Chodor about whether the Antipodes are immune.
  • How do you "take back control" if you're loaded with debt? Why not just, like, not repay it? Turns out, most countries are debt cucks. We ask Jerome Roos why.
  • And we have interviews on new books by Cory Doctorow on why the internet sucks, by Benjamin Studebaker on how the USA is stuck, stuck, stuck, by Sohrab Ahmari on civil tyrants taking your freedom, and by Benjamin Fong on why we're all on drugs.
  • And we read the third and final section of Jurgen Habermas’ 1973 classic, Legitimation Crisis in the 2023 Reading Club.

ICYMI - July on Bunga

For subscribers-only:

  • Is the radical right in the global periphery responding to resentment and thus eating the left's lunch? We discussed Hungary, Turkey, Brazil, the Philippines and India with Tamas Gerocs and Cecila Lero
  • Leading Hegelian Marxist scholar Sean Sayers talked to us about communism during the Cold War, and what makes Hegelian Marxism necessary.
  • You can't live on a diet of bourgeois ideology alone, but old sources of fibre, like traditionalism, don't exist anymore. That's when you face a motivation crisis. We discussed this in the latest Reading Club.

And for genpop:

  • George hosted regular Bungacast guest Catherine Liu and Dan Evans in talk about the Professional-Managerial Class' politics. We have the audio of the live event in London.
  • Musician Jason Myles of This Is Revolution podcast joined us to talk about selling out and the spectacle, rap and underclass ideology, and if pop music is dead.

That Doctorow interview will doubtless be terrific. Keep up the excellent work peeps 😊

End of the month and I've still got Cory Doctorow and Benjamin Studebaker to look forward to. Great work this month!
