Q: “Can you do a studio tour at some point? I’m curious about all your tools of the trade…”

A: my office looks probably a lot like what you’d expect.

Big old IKEA desk that I’ve had for decades propping up my Wacom Cintiq 27QHD where I do all my digital art. Having seen fellow artist Kumi Pumi mount a keyboard to the top of her Cintiq I decided I had to give it a try. It’s a brilliant position. Keeps my keyboard accessible but out of the way. The multiple monitors is kind of a critical thing, IMO. I’m always having to reference something, even if it’s my own work. How DID I draw that character before? I recently splurged on a Stream Deck to replace my dying Logitech keypad that I have a lot of shortcuts programmed in. I really like it.

On the walls I have some of the art I’ve collected over all the years of doing cons. And a autograph of Keith Urban. It’s not real sci-fi/fantasy until he shows up!

Behind me I have a small library of books! Comics which I reference frequently, as well as a small mountain of sci-fi/fantasy novels. Nicknacks lurk in the corners adding a touch of whimsy. The horse is one of the many my wife has from her childhood, which has become my go to horse reference. Horses are complicated.

At the back of the office I’ve a closet full of shipping materials. I don’t do a lot of shipping myself at the moment, as SharkRobot manages my online store and handles all that. But I used ti back in the day, and still do from time to time need to fire off a custom print or something.

Those who have been reading since the days of Comedity will be happy to know that Alice—my computer, for the uninitiated—continues to thrive. She doesn’t game as much as she used to, but she can push pixels with the best of them. I think she’s up to version 3.3 now.

That’s it, really. It’s not a big space. Just some 100 odd square feet of loft space full of books and art and creativity.

I like the inverted mounted motherboard configuration!!

Is it bad that the second I read "studio tour" my first thought was "I wonder if Alice is still around"?

I keep using this case for Alice because the layout is so damn smart. It turns the motherboard so all the cables/venting come out the top while it sucks in air from the bottom. It's a little tight space wise, but it's really well built and designed.
