The third article in the Ultimate Morgue File series is up, in which I write about why and how to include accessible character dumps in Cogmind, including automated build classification and a situation analysis system.

I've embedded it in image form below, but you can also check out the text version here (which also animates any gifs). The password for access is "dumped".

Hi Kyzrati, what a nice post! I think it would be nice to have a radar chart to visualize different aspects of a build, i.e. offensive power, defensive power, hacking ability, perception, speed, stealth, storage, etc. There is already a "Best States" section in the scoresheet, but plotting tens of statistics on a plot would be overwhelming, so this requires some kind of aggregating.

Also, can you explain why you decided not to offer a current situation analysis indicator to the HUD? From my perspective, it contributes to the immersive experience!

Good question. For one there really isn't room in the UI. I don't want to waste a line for that, and there actually aren't any lines remaining, so it would have to replace something else. The current position I was using on the interface purely for dev purposes is not something that I want to fill in with any content because it will make the HUD far too dense. Having some empty lines is kinda important :P

Yeah that does sound interesting, a lot of games do something like that. Of course this wouldn't be as easy to fit into a text scoresheet using ASCII, at least not in the star-like format your suggestion has me thinking, but even a bar graph would be nice. It would require yet another system of formulas to implement... Right now the two-word build naming system serves a similar purpose in a more compact form, and that's already a pretty big step. Maybe at some point!
