From Adal:

Fun month full of travel and celebrations. We went with my mom, sister and brother-in-law to Door County over Mother’s Day weekend. Splendid place with lots of fish boils and a pretty solid putt-putt place called Pirates Cove (I got 3 hole in 1’s but lets not make a big deal out of it…)

Over Memorial Day weekend I went with Jemma to Princeton Reunions and had more Hoagie Haven, which I’m ready to declare as a top 3 all-time sandwich, and was introduced to a new game called 2 ball (basically involves sprinting around a pool table). After watching one round I jumped in to play and IMMEDIATELY annihilated my knee on the table and have now spent the last week hobbling around. Don’t play 2 ball.

I just got back (apologies for the newsletter delay) from my birthday trip to Lisbon where I crept closer to death by tallying up 41 years. We had a great time with highlights including steak sandwiches for dessert, pastiche de nada’s, out of this world garlic shrimp (and seafood in general), a magical day trip to Sintra and an immersive show about Edgar Allan Poe we ended up going to 3 times called A Morte do Corvo. If you ever want a list of recommendations please reach out and I’m happy to share.

Here’s what I consumed in May:

TV:

  • I Think You Should Leave season 3
  • Detroiters season 1
  • Review season 1 - easily the most underrated tv show of all time. It’s on Paramount + if you’ve never seen it
  • Queer Eye season 7
  • The Other Two season 3
  • Schmigadoon! season 2
  • Rise of the Pink Ladies
  • RuPaul AllStars season 8
  • The Muppets Mayhem
  • The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning
  • The Big Door Prize
  • Jeopardy - Jemma and I have started watching daily

Movies:

  • Gone Fishing - a funny, sad and weird short film I really enjoyed. Written, directed and featuring some of our buds from Big Grande and starring the best Big Toe, Mary Holland. Please check it out! https://vimeo.com/761279804
  • Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
  • Fast X in 4DX - went with JPC and Casey Toney and we got our asses absolutely scrambled by the machine that is 4DX.
  • Miracle - had never seen it and figured it was time
  • Blade Runner - same as above
  • Blade Runner 2049
  • Guardians of the Galaxy 3
  • Air
  • Woooooo! Becoming Ric Flair
  • Rory Scovel Tries Stand-Up For the First Time
  • American Masters: Mel Brooks: Make a Noise
  • Jinkx Monsoon: Red Head Redemption

Other Stuffs:

  • Music I’ve been listening to: AJJ’s album ‘Good Luck Everybody’, The Fat Rat album PARALLAX and The National’s new album ‘First Two Pages of Frankenstein’
  • The podcast Mallwalkin’ with Mark McConville and Matt Gourley.
  • Played some more Blood on the Clocktower, this time with Arnie and as he mentioned we had one brutal game where we were sussed out immediately!
  • Got the Peanut Butter Puppy Chow blizzard at Dairy Queen and it’s very much worth checking out.
  • Since I was out of town I haven’t been able to see it but I’m unbelievably excited to see Across The Spider-Verse! This might be the most I’ve ever anticipated seeing a film.
  • Got to see Caroline Polchik and Ethel Cain in concert which was a treat
  • In searching out more immersive theater to experience I stumbled across a theatrical immersive horror piece done over the phone called CLAWS. It’s a dark and engaging roller coaster ride and I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a unique experience! https://candlehousecollective.com/tickets/claws
  • On June 2nd our Brisket (aka Bongo, aka Bicky, aka Bissy Beans) celebrated his birthday!
  • Thank you to everyone who sent us recent packages! My cats are LOVING the little cow toy someone sent and I’ve been enjoying the hot sauce, coffee and everything else!

Please let me know what you’ve been enjoying!

Love

From JPC:

Hey Riddiots -

Planning a trip to the Northeast so if anyone in Portland, Portsmouth, Boston, Providence, or New Haven has some favorite spots that they'd recommend, please let me know in the comments!

Here's some things that I've been enjoying lately:

1. The Other Two on Max - so far, season 3 has been great but the first two seasons are also killer, so if you haven't watched, you absolutely should

2. Platonic on AppleTV - Yes, the show features THE Janet Varney and she's very good in it. It's also just very funny! Mild spoiler for the first scene of the first episode, but as I was watching it I said "fuck this guy" when Rose Byrne's character's husband started talking because he's super handsome and also really kind? Shows shouldn't do that. Hot characters should be horrible so we can all hate them.

3. W.E.B Du Bois biography of John Brown - fascinating read and not super long (although it takes you a long time to read it when you're reading four books at a time.) This is the first biography of John Brown that I've read and I love it. If anyone has read another that they'd recommend, please let me know. Or any other Du Bois! God, that guy is also such a singular historical figure. Oh, and if anyone has read the David Levering Lewis 2 part biography of Du Bois, please let me know if you'd recommend it.

4. Succession on Max - Had a great time watching this show and rooting against all the main characters. And it's one of those rare shows that has multiple stand-out acting moments per episode, especially in this final season. Disgusting Brothers forever!

Since JPC is a Known Pervert I gotta recommend my favorite Providence sex shop - Mister Sister! Just about a block from there is Small Format, a great cafe with vegan baked goods. Like No Udder has amazing vegan ice cream, also nearby (providence is small). Lastly, Lovecraft Arts and Sciences book store is definitely worth a visit especially if you’re interested in horror and/or the occult.

Veggie Galaxy in cambridge has the best vegan/vegetarian breakfast food ive ever had, if you’re driving and interested Erin’s favorite bagel shop is on the way between providence and boston Atlantic Bagel and you can check out Hingham which is a genuinely beautiful town. Jaho is a boba place in Boston area that has the best Thai iced tea ever
