Corvus was our guest modeller for this month, he has created his own inspired race called the Abyssal Hybrids, cultists of the deep. they are a multipart kit with lots of fantastic options. All pre-supported too! Here are some words from himself!

'In his house of emerald dreams, dead Lord of the Abyss waits dreaming...'

Do you hear that chant? That gurgling noises below the water, hypnotizing you, envelope you like a soft blanket, leading to the deeps of the underground lakes and oceans... The Children of the Sea, proud descendants of the Sleeping Lord are waiting for you. They need you. They want you. And they'll get you - once and forever.

So don't you dare to look away from the water. The Deep Children are singing their song for you. And their eerie voices would be heard!

Hi, everybody!

My name is Nikita, but somebody may know me by my aliases Corvus_Obscurus or simply Corvin:) Thanks to the Seb, Brex and Garin I was honoured to be a guest modeller for this month here, at Makers Cult. As a theme for my models, I decided to make an 'underwater' approach to the vicious Xenos gene-snatching cult. Cause, you know, why does only fantasy wargames get their share of aquatic creatures?!:)

And of course, when you think about cults and 'underwater', the first thing that comes to your mind is Lovecraftian Deep Ones. You know the vibe - scaly faces, gills under the scarfs and of course mighty and glorious bodies of the underwater creatures:) That was the starting point for development.

To show you the mutated look of part-humans, part monsters I decided to prepare middle-stage hybrids for the pack. Old enough to be transformed to monsters, actually, but not too old to finally lose all human features. As the main reference for 'fishy ancestors' I chose Dunkleosteus - real prehistorical 'fish' with boney head, massive fangs and 8 meters of muscles to frighten and consume anything that dares to disturb his territory. When the 'alien part' had been made, I started to think about the 'human part' of the sculpt. Sure thing 'thin' scuba sets wouldn't be enough to give them a fair share of menace and terror. So I dived back several decades ago and had been heavily inspired by so-called copper hats, especially those who were used by Kriegsmarine, early British helmet-corselet composition and of course the famous Big Daddys from Bioshock games. I started to think about how it should be destroyed and corrupted by the metamorphosis of its owner - you know, tattered clothing parts, burst out metal parts etc:)

And after that, generally the visual of the kit had been set up:) The only thing to determine was various bits and tools. Of course, flamers had been replaced (who need a flamer underwater?) with heavy welders. All the close combat gear had been also 'marined' - knives became prongs and harpoons, a sword became a trident and only claws had been still effective, both on the surface and below it:)

So, since we've got the hard-working underwater team with harpoons, of course, the first association to me was the crew of 'Pequod' from 'Moby Dick'. Hard-working people with indefinite willpower and desire to deal with their demons up to the death of any of the sides. And who should lead the 'Pequod' crew, if not Captain Ahab himself?!:) With his pipe, stubbornness, razor-sharp trident and irrational hatred to his foes, he is definitely the one who would walk the plank up till the end.

Nobody knows how he had lost his leg, however. In the battle with some underwater monster? During the bloody skirmish with Imperial Oppressors? In the ritual trial within his clan? Maybe you'll find the answer to this mystery and will lead Ahab to his long-awaited vengeance?!;)

I hope, I made your evening more joyful with my story and my models:) They are just a first instalment in the big line of models that would be delivered through my own Patreon. But that's not all the things that I'm working on:) So if you'd like to support me - pay a visit to my page here: https://www.patreon.com/CrucibleOfGames

And of course, you could overview other my models at my stores at ComicsGamesAndThings (https://bit.ly/2JC6LZj), MyMiniFactory (https://www.myminifactory.com/users/Crucible%20of%20Games) or CGTrader (https://www.cgtrader.com/corvusobscurus)

With DEEP gratitude,

Nikita
