Hey everyone!

We're proud to present the sequel to the Mountaintop Observatory we posted last month!

This pack is a sprawling series of levels taking your party from the observatory (or arcane cannon if you prefer) down into the three levels of the geothermal power station and finally into source of all the power: the planar rift. We've gone full magi-tech with this map combining steampunk-ish technology with wizardy portals and Efreeti fire bartering.

Observatory

This is the main access point for the rest of the levels. You can go up the spiral staircase to the First Floor. Down the spiral staircase to the Geothermal Station Basement 1. Or go into the quaint living quarters and discover the secret trap door to the Planar Research Room. There's a very small clue to this trap door on the map, but very easy to miss. The Planar Research Room has a lift which will take players all the way to B3, so it serves better as an escape than an entrance. Or simply a shortcut for cunning parties.

Geothermal Station

This is where power is generated to work the observatory/cannon above. Its still functioning but barely. Old pipes are bursting at the seams and some sections have collapsed entirely or been taken over by giant spiders and other ne'er-do-wells in the depths. Other than the secret lift and the service steps, there's two other secret entrances into the geothermal station: a tight tunnel that leads from the bottom of the hot spring pool down to B2 (careful not to scold yourself) and a blocked down that leads from the Yeti Cave to B3. This door is blocked and hidden behind a pile of bones but some enterprising adventurers will surely find a way to get it open.

Planar Rift

Who opened this portal to the fire planes? Was it always here? A queer figment of interplanar physics? Was it opened by some ancient wizard only to be used centuries later as a power source for the observatory? Or maybe the devilish creator of the observatory opened it themselves. We'll leave that up to you. Regardless, it's hot in here.

The Efreeti being the cunning money-grubbers that they are, they've decided to stake out this nice oasis on the firmament of the fire plane and sell their heat to the observatory engineers. They like to linger around and chew the fat, count their coins and warm their toes on the flaming fire plane below. Maybe for an extra coin or two they'll even take you down to the brass city therein.

All patrons receive all levels of the dungeon. So the variations this week are all changes to the Planar Rift level in case you want to find something different down there.

Map sizes:

Observatory First Floor [16x16]

Observatory Ground Floor [21x16]

Geothermal Station B1 [30x24]

Geothermal Station B2 [39x31]

Geothermal Station B3 [39x43]

Planar Rift [27x42]

Enjoy!

Edit: We've added a version of the interior with the cannon instead of the telescope and also a version of the bottom floor with a transparent hole so you can make it a portal to anywhere you like. Those are attached at the bottom of this post and available for all patrons.

Oh my god this is SO COOL

This is absolutely perfect for something I need in an Eberron campaign. Awesome as always.

The party went to the observatory (arcane cannon in my campaign) last session. This is PERFECT! :D

AMAZINGGGGG!!!!

This is absolutely beautiful, I got my fingers crossed for a FoundryVTT version!

Excellent work!

Heather

I love this so much. The planar maps are amazing! One question: would it be possible to get a variation of the portal that has a transparent portal? I'd love to be able to switch in their own demiplanes, or portals to your other maps!

John Bitsura

I literally want to make an Eberron campaign where it's JUST CzePeku maps. It's this weird little challenge that lives in my brain.

JBWGamer4

I can't agree more with you Heather. My campaign is based in Eberron and the party are going to have to go into the sewers to fight their next group of bad guys and this geothermal rift map is perfect for a purification plant in those sewers combined with the lava flow that comes from below it. Thanks guys!

Really great follow map to part 1. I was wondering if there were any plans to make variations of the top floor(s) to match the eldritch cannon from part 1?

czepeku

There will be a cannon version of the top floor. That was one of those stupid mistakes we didn't even realise until after we posted it. We're moving house this week but we'll add that to the pack as soon as we can.

Connor Rollins

Awesome! Thanks for all the great content!

I am very impressed with everything I saw here and absolutely love Planar Rift, you are super people!

I mean, I spent most of last night programming this into my campaign. Its just so beautiful that I can't keep it from my players. Waterdeep should have an observatory after all!

Alessandro Masi

This is goddamn delightful! And it's a perfect dungeon for something I have planned in my current game! I love the details in the different sections of the maps, and how they connect. Just fabulous!

Unwated Arcana

This is wonderful and perfect for my needs! Now planning to use the observatory leading down through Underdark Entrance Varient to get my party to the drow stalagmite manor :) The whole observatory is going to be a front for the displaced drow faction that was disgraced in my last campaign (just finished lvl 20, now starting the sequel!). This is going to be where they ended up :)

I love this map pack, but trying to do walls in FVTT is driving me insane. I checked the gridded versions and I figured out why. Most of the corridors don't align with the grid. It makes it very *very* difficult for VTT use, even gridless, because I can align one part of the map, but the other parts will be off.

czepeku

We'll be releasing a FVTT version of it very soon, we're just on holiday at the moment. Then the walls will be done for you. :)

Anonymous

I don't mind doing the walls, the issue is the walls *with* the grid. As in, putting walls where they should be but also allowing tokens to move properly. It's more of a grid issue than a wall issue.

Ogo Sylla

Love the additions! Though the Blank Rift Portal versions are both gridded. I'm assuming one of them was supposed to be ungridded

czepeku

Thanks for pointing it out, i'll look at the walls with the grids in future, the issue is mainly that we want more organic shapes and not to be completely beholden to the grid.

Sorry to necro an old thread but was there ever variations of the first floor created?
