Hey everyone!
Over the last month we’ve been focusing on some quality of life upgrades around here so that you get the best experience possible being part of this community.
First of all, for the next year we plan to move from 3 maps per month to 4! That way you can get a new map every week and have something new to show off at your table every session.
We’ve scoured all the old maps for naming inconsistencies and fixed them all. Thank you to everyone who pointed out the problems and let us know. So now all the maps, right from the beginning, use the same naming practices and are separated into Gridded and Gridless folders for ease of use. Some of the maps which were missing gridless versions and other mistakes have all been fixed.
(The exception is our first two maps which were sort of beyond repair, they're officially retired now)
We’ve also optimized all the old maps so that they look just as great but now take up less disk space. If you re-download all the maps you’ll now save about 1.25GBs.
Remember if you want more information on any of the maps, its all in this handy ledger.
The Master Cartographer tier now gets all of the maps as printable PDFs. We’ve gone through the archives and made PDF versions of all our maps. You can take these to a print shop and print them as nice big glossy prints or set them to poster mode and print at home!
Printing instructions are on the PDF post here.
The Master Cartographer tier will also be getting Foundry VTT-ready versions of all the maps (a big thank you to the guys at Foundry Workshop for setting that up for us). That means all the walls and lighting is configured for all our maps. So you can just import them and play with all the fun advanced features without any hassle.
In the coming weeks we also hope to support EncounterPlus and other VTTs. Keep an eye out for that too!
The PDFs and Foundry-ready maps are in the midst of being uploaded so expect those hopefully tomorrow or sometime this week! We'll put up an instruction manual on how to import the maps into Foundry VTT.
We've had a rethink on how we want to handle commercial use of our maps. We're currently fine tuning the writing but essentially we're going to allow the watermarked versions of our maps to be used commercially within other rpg projects (settings, adventures, supplements, etc.) by all patrons.
We know a lot of small homebrew creators don't have the funds to support us at $20p/m so we think this is a good compromise, hopefully this way a lot more creators will feel inspired to publish their own adventures.
Edit: see the new commercial licence here.
And lastly...
These changes are our way of saying thank you to the almost 5000 patrons who have joined us here on patreon and lent us their support.
Last month we entered the top 10 games patreons, so we want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has joined us in this community and made that possible! We especially want to thank the 10 patrons that have stuck with us since our very first week! And to all the mods on the Discord and the other creators that have collaborated with us along the way.
We’re so thrilled to be making maps for you all and we want to do our best not only to make the best maps possible but to make your experience finding and using those maps the best it possibly can be. So we really hope you like these changes. Let’s make some awesome roleplaying memories together!
