This has been a really busy week for us, lots of long term projects all coming together before the end of the month. Luckily for you that means lots of new maps!

Today we finished the Beholder-inspired collaboration we've been working on with our friend Živko which has been in the works for about 3 months. If you're on the Discord you'll have definitely have met him but if not, here's some words from him:

"Hey, everyone, for those who don't know me, my name is Živko, I go by Zhillustrator online, and this is the first time in my life that I've painted a map! And it was a blast! I usually paint quite different things from our two mapmaking buddies, but this is proof enough that our styles can blend real nicely. If you like how this turned out, now you have to pester C&P for more collabs with me. *grins evilly*

While thinking on variations on this map, we threw out so many cool ideas, and I would be happy to cooperate with C&P again on something else, I know we can make cool stuff happen."

So if anyone has any crazy ideas for maps they'd like to see us work on together, let us know in the comments! For now have fun battling this gigantic one-shotting monstrosity. :D

Oh and the ETA for the casino is Saturday. Like I said, we've got lots coming out this week. Enjoy!

The Crafty Dice

Oh, that blind beholder gives me the creeps. Great work as always!

ZeroMyths

These are crazy - would be sick for the beholder to have a stat block or "lair block" - would make an interesting map fight rather than sticking to one place most of a fight... definitely gonna put this up against my high level party.

IADnDMN (https://www.patreon.com/ItsADnDMonsterNow) is currently on holiday but he might have some clever ideas for stats or lair ideas. I'll make sure to ask him! Perhaps the standing stones disintergrate over time or get targeted by his eye stalks so you have to keep on dodging to different ones.

I was tempted to do a variation with a bunch of forks stuck into the eye but I just couldn't bring myself to do it...

Holy sh-- This is so amazing!

If anyone has any good idea for more maps to make with Živko, please feel free to suggest them! We're thinking things like hells, demons, devils, outer planes and other chaotic spaces. Give us your best ideas!

Now to figure out where stats for this exist already. Failing that, let's see what the most time effective method to stat this creature out would be.

Karl Rasmussen

This is the one that made me a patron - used both this and your world of dreams in an encounter with a (more) nightmarish beholder that kept shifting the party into pseudo-real alternate dimensions, and thank you so much for making their wailing and gnashing possible! (Technically, they're still fighting him, if you'd like to drop another bizarro world before Saturday...) ;)

I actually used this in my last session, editing it slightly so that the large eye in the center was animated. Finding ways to scare my level 17 players is always a challenge.

czepeku

Woah, that sounds so cool! Do you have a video of it animating?

I'm not so handy with screen recording, so here's a short video of it I took with my phone. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NOdVBQ8C3viMfVv53_cbkKilEBjQZyma/view?usp=sharing

I've been DMing for this party about three or so years now and we've recently moved to Roll20 due to social distancing. Maps like these really help to keep things fresh and exciting for my party. I'm planning on treating them to a lightning rail heist soon. I'll be excited to see if I can animate that too!

Jeremy Suiter

I know it's been a while, but I'm new here - I'd like to second Aubrey's request for Cotton's animation. Sick in the best way! Please do share.

Been away for a good while, but I thought I'd share how I made it since it seems there is still interest. I used this animated gif for the eye (https://static.wixstatic.com/media/7b0c8a_9fb02b1ceeed4c7b846aa4da820600ba~mv2.gif/v1/fit/w_525,h_525,al_c,q_80/file.png), then I opened up the beholder map in paint and erased the section of eye that was to be animated. You can save the image such that the erased area is transparent. After that, just upload the animated eye and the eyeless beholder image to Roll 20 as maps. Make sure that the eye gif is behind the eyeless beholder and that it is sized and positioned so that the animated eye fills the eyeless gap on the beholder map. There is an option in Roll20 to enable animated tokens and assets, though I don't completely remember if you need to have the enhancement suite set up. It very easy to do in the Firefox browser; just go to this link in a Firefox tab and download it (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/roll20-enhancement-suite/).

That flame touch is godly. I love it!

Would love a link to any stat block people have made for this. I've tried a few attempts but just not happy with them

czepeku

There is a stat block for it. :) You can find it in the stat block list in the 'ancient map room' stickied on the main patreon page.
