We happen to be living in Japan right now so this was a particularly interesting map for us to make. There's a lot of misconceptions about what warms the onsen baths here. People like to believe that they're hot due to geothermal heat but really it's all about those fire bellied salamanders, the water hits them and beautiful hot steamy water comes pouring off. The owners of this particular onsen have found a relatively tame one to run the baths for them. Although if they don't continually feed it spicy manju buns it'll burn the whole bathhouse to the ground. You've been warned...
