Hey map hunters! Here's the Ancient Wizard Lair for you all. After creating all those variations for the Wizard Tower it was quite a creative push to come up with something novel for this map. But we're always up for a creative challenge.

We decided to make an ancient floating wizard library for the base map, suspended by giant crystals. This old wizard library is a suspended 8 pointed star-ziggurat. The number 8 is of vital importance to all magic (not only because octarine is the colour of magic) but because there are 8 elements* and 8 magic schools and 8 non-neutral alignments** and all sorts of other magical octo-patterns. Including octopi themselves, which may actually be the first ever wizards. Anyway, check out all the variations in the line-up below!

* wind, smoke, fire, magma, earth, ooze, water, ice

** the planes that govern them are: Elysium, Olympus, Limbo, Abyss, Hades, Nine Hells, Mechanus and Mount Celestia!

We also want to thank all our patrons who've helped us reach our next massive milestone of $1000!  We were stuck at $999 for a few hours (lots of refreshing the page during that time) but a fellow mapmaker RollForInitiative upped his pledge (check him out!) and now we're heading towards our next goal. That means we'll be making another giant boss map soon. We're still working on the Giant Spider Lair but we'll get around to them all in time.

For those who haven't seen it yet, we've added two new tiers with some exclusive benefits. We'll be adding Discord soon along with some other tier changes based on all the feedback we've been getting for the community polls/discussions so far.

As always we'll be posting next week's poll after this, so stick around to vote on what map you'd like to see next. :D

Absolutely stunning. So creative, so beautiful! I am speechless.

This is...absolutely amazing. You guys are so talented. I pledge to several different map content creators, but you always leave me speechless with your creativity and sheer amount of content you provide to your backers.

Jessie Backoff

These are beautiful, and I LOVE the Council variant. My players are going to encounter an archdruid who has been imprisoned in her own mind and will be going in after her. There are gateways that lead to different memories where they will have to find fragments of a key to bring her back. That map is going to be perfect for that.

Make the key a branch and they have to find the leaves, to better fit the druid theme?

Thanks Eckhart, pleased to hear that. I'm thinking of some megadungeon now where you could link this up to 8 separate wizard towers. That'd be a campaign in and of itself.

Thanks for the kind words Joshua. I don't really know what to say but I really appreciate it. We thought the map was lacking a bit and decided to stay awake into the morning to make the titan octopus variation before posting. I tell you, hearing responses like this really makes it feel worth it. :)

Glad to know the council variant is just what you needed Jessie. How are your players getting into the mind of the archdruid? Sounds like a great plot. Good way to inform your players about the world too, you can do world building through the memories you explore.

Jessie Backoff

Haha that's a complicated answer, but I'll try and keep it concise. The archdruid was kidnapped and is being subdued using the nectar from a flower. It's difficult to keep someone that powerful from escaping, so the poison has trapped her in her own mind. But her insanity is manifesting into the radius around her, causing massive overgrowths and creatures to spawn. The party will be able to cross into her mind though one of those spawn points. (After they get past whatever comes out, of course).

Seriously this is phenomenal work. Great things ahead of you if you can keep up this quality and consistency, well done!

Thanks Aaron! We're trying to improve our map quality each week and put our more novel and interesting themes for the variations. We've had lots of desert and shadowland requests recently, so we'll be attempting those soon.

Domille's Wondrous Works

I cannot wait to use this in my campaign. I already have an idea how: my players are going to encounter this floating island in the middle of the sea on their way to stop the apocalypse.

czepeku

That's cool! How will they get there? Do they have a ship? Curious how they'll be stopping the apocalypse!

Domille's Wondrous Works

Yup! They are going to get a ship as a reward for defeating a big bad that is coming up soon! That is, unless they do something really stupid, which is not completely out of realm of possibility lol.
