As suggested by Joshua Crouch from now on we'll be adding the top 3 runners up from last week's poll into the next.

If you have any suggestions you'd like to see in next week's poll, suggest it either by message or commenting below before Sunday.

what i would like to see is snow variants of maps and also pool/watter variant maps

Since Desert type environments don't seem to be faring to well, I have another suggestion: Planar maps. The planes are a boundless series of interconnecting dimensions, each themed differently from the last. To give some quick examples: one could find a traveling, makeshift 'boat' floating through the paraelemental plane of Ooze, manned by gnomes or somesuch, each of whom have duties relating to the collection of all the wonderous garbage that seem to fall into the plane of ooze. Alternatively, perhaps an adventuring party has set out into the Plane of Fire, in search of the famed City of Brass, where anything and anyone can be sold. In this plane, one may find forests made of living flame, and rolling rivers of molten lava... and the creatures that seem to live off both. The outer planes, like heaven or hell, always have some neat concepts one might explore. The Faewild's living forests and bustling fae courts have plenty of plot hooks, as well as possibly being useful for maps in regular games. Lastly, maybe... something from the Planes of Madness, where cthulhu and their ilk reside? Non-euclidian spaces are probably hard to represent on a map, but giant tentacles and meat-moss, less so.

I think the desert requests are probably too specific for a lot of patrons. I think they would be better suited as map variants. I think the feel of a desert map could easily be achieved with warm sandstone filters, without investing specific desert features into the maps. For example, a lot of people might be interested in 'City Street Alleys' that could be inserted into any setting, with snow, desert, night time, rainy, etc variants available.

I'd really love to see some maps with more water elements - a lake in the woods (maybe something wonderful can be found at the bottom? Maybe what sleeps under the deep shoud stay there...) but also more maze oriented maps where I can lay treasures or traps.

yes and no. As a DM trying to run a campaign based in a desert nation. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to find content that supports that setting. While some things can be used for multiple settings, I kinda like having a specific one now and then.

I'm running a desert campaign too (Domes of Ishaq Zahur and City of Sands by 2C Gaming) and I agree it's really hard! Some of these desert poll options have been from me. But I don't see them getting enough vote traction to win the weekly vote and I would rather compromise with map variants than see no map I can use at all.

Suggestion: Labyrinth of failing bridges Motivation: I am shepherding a party of adventurers who love to rummage and search every corner no matter how many deadly enemies are approaching. I am trying to nudge them to "run" and quickly navigate treacherous paths. A labyrinth of short and shaky bridges might be a cure for that. I could not find anything like it online, and I could imagine it might be a fun component in a campaign!

I agree. I'm also trying to run one. Map variants is a smart compromise, though it's really down to what these wonderful map makers feel like doing. c:

Underdark Drow Manor and Ancient Wizard Lair were tied this week (never expected that to happen), so we flipped a coin and Ancient Wizard Lair was the winner. We'll add the Drow Manor to next week's poll though so there's still another chance to get it.

Hey Eckhart, that's a really original idea, I'll add it to next week's poll, thanks! Do you use the wandering monster rules in your games? They're there to speed up your adventurers and keep them pressing on. Keeping track of food/supplies is another good method too.

I love the lake in the woods idea Chelsea. It'd be fun to do variations of different treasure at the bottom, you could guard it with water elementals and mermaids. I'll add that to next week's poll. Do you have a more specific idea for a maze? We made one last week and would like to do something significantly different if we tackle a maze again, maybe a lava maze or a hedge maze in the fey?

The last two maps have snow variants, we'll try to add more, sometimes it fits the themes, other times not so much. Are you doing a snow-y campaign? Are there any specific water/pool maps you'd like to see Boaz? Another patron suggested a lake in the woods, is that the sort of thing you're looking for?

Hey Adahn, shame the desert maps aren't faring well, but feel free to suggest them in future. We'll try to add desert variations when we can but often they just don't fit. If the architecture/ecology isn't right, it just don't work. Like with the guildhall, it'd look European even if surrounded it with sand. The planar maps sound really cool, do you have a specific plane you'd like to suggest for next week's poll? We tried our hand at the Feywild a few weeks back. We're also hoping to do something related to the planes this week for the Ancient Wizard Lair.

Sometimes we're able to do desert variants but sometimes it just doesn't work. There's a lot that goes into making a desert location look right, like the flora, props and the architecture. You could put snow in the desert but it wouldn't look like an arctic environment without the spruce trees and the fireplaces and wool rugs, that sort of detail is what sells it. Seems like there's a lot of interest in a desert environment though, we'll try and get one out for you guys.

Thanks for adding the suggestion! And using wandering monsters consistently is a great reminder, I have to work on that.

Tom

Ancient Wizard's Lair! Heck yes!

Patrick

Lol nice! Those were the two I voted for. Definitely hope to see the Underdark Drow Manor though. Been itching to throw some followers of Lolth at my party.

We flipped a coin (perhaps we should have rolled a dice instead) to settle which map we'll make and it was the Ancient Wizard Lair. But we'll be adding the Underdark Drow Manor to next week's poll as it was so popular!
