Yes, it was based off a book, it was co-written by Neil Gaiman (author of The Sandman, Coraline, American Gods, Mirror Mask, and many other books I just listed ones that have well known adaptations) and Sir Terry Pratchett (Author of the Discworld series, his most well known series consisting of 41 books that are comedic fantasy and don't need to be read in any particular order. They've done many adaptations of Discworld books, but they were mostly BBC projects so didn't really air in the states) The book is great and is not even particularly long. At one point they were considering a moie with Terry Gilliam (of Monty Python fame as well as 12 Monkeys, Brazil, an amazing movie, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and way too many other movies to name lol) but to be honest it worked much better as a series. Sadly there was only one book, there was a planned sequel book titled 668: Neighbor of the Beast but alas Sir Terry passed away due to complications dealing with Alzheimers back in 2015. I know they used some stuff Neil and him had talked about in the series. As far as a second season goes, I don't know, it depends on how far Neil and Sir Terry got on working on the book, but most likely this is it. The series really portrayed the book well, It was supposed to be over the top with the CGI in places. One review of the book fits it perfectly "It's the Omen, as done by Monty Python" and the series delivered that in spades.
