The witch's candy bowl turns out to be more than meets the eye...~

Mun belongs to Moonwing

Jenny belongs to me

- - -

The first stars of night were starting to dot the sky as Mun hurried into his front garden. If anyone was going to visit then he still had to pull out last year's decorations and dot them about the yard, and he'd have to work quickly if he didn't want to miss any of his movies. While not exactly out of shape the wolf-snake hybrid wasn't quite athletic enough to go through that kind of hurry without breaking a sweat, but a little bit of huffing and puffing later and Mun was able to get the cardboard pumpkins lined up along his front fence. A few spooky looking spider silhouettes showed through his windows and fake cobwebs strung a path to the door. He stood back admiring his handiwork for a few moments, he seemed to be done just in time as the first lot of trick-or-treaters of the evening were ambling along towards his home.

Mun hurried inside to where he had left Jenny's bowl on a table beside the door. Despite the few lollies he had plucked from it on the way home the bowl looked as full as ever, with candies sparkling in the hall light. As the trick-or-treaters arrived the candies were distributed with big handfuls but when they left Mun looked down to find the bowl as full as it had been before. He blinked, but she had said the bowl would be 'more than enough' to last him the night. Perhaps it was enchanted after all? It was exciting to think about but just as likely a trick of the eye. Instead of worrying about it, the hybrid picked the bowl up and wandered into the lounge room for the start of his movie marathon.

The hybrid's couch spoke to comfort over style – where some bought expensive faux leather affairs, Mun preferred something with a little more fluff. He sunk into soft fabric cushions and rested his paws on a luxuriously large footstool that had come with the sofa. The orange candy bowl was nestled beside him as he reached for his TV remote and began scrolling through the channels, lounge room becoming bathed in the TV's ever changing light.

Early Halloween movies were the kind that you could get up from and come back to, which was necessary when costumed furs arrived at your door looking for candy. They were cheesy flicks about creatures that became comically monstrous, or strange furless aliens visiting and making a mess of things – easy enough for Mun to pull himself away from to answer the ringing of the doorbell. Costumes this year were on point, too, making him especially glad that he had visited Jenny for the bowl. Each time someone came to his door with a chilling costume he was proud to have a big handful of sweets to be able to hand out. Worries about rationing the candy quickly became lost as no matter how much he gave out or nibbled on during the movies, the bowl never really emptied. It didn't even dip below full.

Suspicions of an enchantment were starting to be confirmed as, when responding to one of the knocks from trick-or-treaters of the evening, Mun found getting up was just a little more challenging than it had been that morning. He fought against the comfortable gravity of the couch, sure, but hefting the candy bowl up in one arm the hybrid could swear he was a little bit heavier as well. A little bit more chubby. He could feel the candy he'd eaten sloshing around as a molten, sugary mush in his stomach which felt just a little bit more puffed up than usual.

By the time night had well and truly rolled in, and the last trick-or-treater had visited, Mun had all but confirmed that there was an enchantment on the bowl. His walk back from the doorway had become ever slightly a waddle and his usually simply chubby stomach was pushing out gently in front of him like he was smuggling a small pillow down his shirt. A small but particularly heavy pillow, perhaps. A giddy little chill ran down his spine – Jenny knew him so well! Enchanting a never-ending candy bowl was the perfect Halloween gift. The idea of binging away the evening, finding himself getting bigger and bigger every time he struggled from his couch, it was intoxicating. He settled once more into the comfort of the couch, grinning as it creaked beneath him, and pulled the candy bowl up to his chest when the scent of oranges tickled his nose.

Oranges.

Of course it wasn't the first time that evening the scent had drifted by him, but he thought perhaps there were simply orange candies within. And while certainly there were, he could also smell something else. Lifting the bowl itself to his nose, Mun's suspicions were all but confirmed. The bowl itself seemed glazed with orange hard candy. A small lick later and he was sure of it. It was a fun little facet of his gift but it also planted the seed of an idea in his mind, one that grew along with the grin on his mouth.

Slowly but with building excitement, Mun raised the bowl to his mouth, licking his lips. Being a snake hybrid had always gifted him with an exceptionally wide bite but it was something he only got to use on special occasions, so he relished the moment. The press of the bowl against his lips, the way it slid heavily on his tongue, stretching his mouth out to accommodate its wide presence. Working the bowl down his throat was another challenge. Once in his mouth he had to work the muscles of his throat, gripping the bowl and pulling it down, down until it stretched his neck with its bulge before another gulp sent it sliding into his waiting gullet.

Having felt the bowl settle in his stomach, stretching it too out a little more and giving him a pot bellied look, Mun felt another shudder of excitement. He had just devoured a never-ending candy bowl. It would sit in there, spilling out candy which would be turned into mush which would digest into blubber... for how long? He didn't want to know, didn't want to ruin the excitement. Instead, Mun settled into the couch, feeling his guts starting to churn, the candy start to build up as he scrolled around for his next horror movie.

What happened next came in moments, moments of realisation brought on by the lull between the end of one movie and the start of another. Moments brought on by the gurgling, churning sounds of his stomach. One moment he was watching the start of a movie, characters set up like pieces on a playing board, feeling with one paw how his gut had started to press out gently. It was bloating a little more with every scene that went by. Like the minute hand of a clock it was hard to tell when he looked at it, but whenever he looked away and looked back his gut looked just a little bit bigger. His shirt rode up just a little bit higher.

In another moment, the couch began to creak beneath him. The hybrid blinked as he looked down – no longer pot bellied, no, he was fat. His gut was a large orb growing, expanding with the treats that were pouring out into it, turning into a calorie rich slurry which was effecting every other aspect of the hybrid's anatomy. Mun's arms and legs had started to plush up, having grown as his once somewhat athletic frame was buried beneath pounds of blubber. His thighs bloomed into thick pillowy trunks of fat as though struggling to grow enough to support the sheer mass of his ever-burbling stomach. In the reflection of the TV he could see a double chin starting to form as a blush crept across his fattened, wobbling cheeks.

Later, the hybrid rose to head to the bathroom. It was in that moment he realised that mobility had become an issue, simply struggling out of the couch was a five minute affair. No longer could he spring forward on muscled legs, he was far too heavy for that. Wide enough to take up almost the entire couch now, Mun had to lean to one side to grip one of the couch's arms and use it to push himself slowly to his feet. His gut, which took the majority of the space in front of him was large enough to be a massive beanbag filled with sugar slurry. It sloshed across him as he heaved and pushed himself upwards, rolling like a slow tide across his thighs until, when standing, it hung down to his knees. Mun was left panting with exhaustion, he wasn't used to having to heft such weight, it felt like five of himself had been added in soft, pillowy, heavy blubber hanging around his frame and dragging him down at the front. Certainly his gut alone was big enough to hold two of his previous self. The lithe, fit body he had possessed earlier that evening was a dream that was slowly vanishing.

Walking to the bathroom and squeezing through the doors was another trial, so Mun took his time. His cheeks were burning crimson at the idea, but he pondered if the growth didn't stop he might not be able to walk anymore in the near future. Surely the enchantment had to wear off some time? Most that he'd heard of had a limited duration. But as he scratched the massive bulk wobbling in front of him during his laboured waddle back to the couch Mun thought he had better be safe than sorry. He grabbed his phone from the coffee table beside the couch and with newly thickened digits pushed in the number of his close friend. As sorry as he was to wake Jenny this late at night his stomach was growing so fast now he could feel the bottom of it brush the ground, even as he sat on the couch. That elicited its own little blush from the hybrid but another wave of concern, as well.

“Hello?” The mouse had definitely been sleeping, she sounded tired.

“Hey uh, sorry to wake you. It's Mun.”

There was a slight pause before Jenny replied, “Oh Mun!” her voice had lifted considerably, it was enough to make the hybrid smile. “I hope you've been enjoying your Halloween gift!”

“About that...” Mun replied, not sure where to start. How exactly does one say 'hey I ate your Halloween gift of self-replicating candy and now I'm not sure if the effects are going to expire'?

“Is there something the matter?” Jenny asked, as the silence on the phone crept onwards.

“Well, maybe you ought to see for yourself. I hate to disturb you but... I think this is pretty important.”

“Of course!” Jenny didn't sound upset in the slightest. “Just let me throw something on, I'll be there soon.”

With a beep the phone was hung up and Mun left sitting there, feeling his stomach creeping slowly across the floor, hearing its gurgling as it churned through pound after pound of sugar. He felt like a big fat jack-o-lantern, like he should be painted orange. Certainly he felt round enough to be one. And it wasn't exactly a feeling he disliked, he found, as his tail thumped happily beside him.
