So I recently found out that on the 18th of December, all my Patrons/supporters will be charged an extra fee each month for supporting me on this platform. This is so creators are charged less of a fee each month as Patreon usually takes a cut of the creators earnings. This is what they have suggested to us creators to post to you guys:

In the past, I was covering Patreon’s 5% fee and all of the processing fees in full for all of my patrons. This meant that every month I saw anywhere from 7-15% of my earnings taken out to cover those processing fees.

Starting December 18th, Patreon will apply a new service fee of 2.9% + $0.35 to each of your individual pledges. This service fee helps keep Patreon up and running and standardizes my processing fees to 5%.

This ensures that creators like me keep more earnings in order to continue creating high-quality content. I hope you understand and continue your pledges on Patreon.

Personally, I am appalled that this has been allowed to go through. They have stated that the response to this has been positive but something tells me that they only asked creators who purely benefit from this system whereas the people who support them, I highly doubt are in favour of being charged even more than they are. I think this is greedy on the side of the creators who want this to go through because there's a high chance people will drop out now due to creators who want that little bit more from their earnings. We are lucky to have a site like this in the first place, just pay the damn fee.

Now I'm saying this to you all just in-case you are not happy with these changes and you wish to drop out. If you do I TOTALLY understand, i am not happy with this at all and if I was forced to pay more, I'd be tempted to jump ship too if I was on the receiving end of this news. So please don't feel bad if you wish to drop out, I only hope that this doesn't get worse or better yet get's retracted from the negative backlash from these changes as I've noticed a few creators have no idea about any of this and never agreed to it.

Additional info can be found on the Patreon creator’s support page ( https://patreon.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005631963 ) and chatter amongst creators and patrons is on reddit ( https://www.reddit.com/r/patreon/comments/7i2kqd/patreon_will_start_charging_patrons_a_credit_card/ ). I want to hear more about the justification for this change. Right now, they’re painting it as fixing confusion in the fee structure for creators, which is pretty weak. Case in point: instead of creating, you’re here writing posts to your patrons explaining why less of our money is getting to you. The platform needs to be self-sustaining, admittedly, but everyone deserves a much more robust explanation (from Conte or a similarly high level type) why the previous system wasn’t working, and why this one is better, including calling out cases of minimal contributions ($1).

Could be that the response has been positive in sum.
