Phew, it's been awhile since I've updated everyone.  And it's been 2 years since the last game update -_-  A lot has happened in that time but I can say, the game was in development the entire time.  We were trying a phew things that were a little too ambitious, I took a small amount of time to focus on just improving my animation skills back when I was putting out random Lylas Curse animations every day.  None of those images are making it into the game, but my skills improved dramatically.


Going back to the features that were too ambitious, we were trying to make a much more gamified experience with the new hunting and battle mechanic.  It's still not working and I made a decision a little bit ago to just back track and simplify everything to a more story based approach at this moment.  That way everything just keeps moving forward.  

Well, that was like half a year of figuring that out that I had to shelve till later.  All of that code is actually in this game build which I'm really pushing to button up really soon.  I think I'm close enough to say that I'm pushing the get this update done by the end of the month or bleeding into next month.  I don't want to put a date on it yet as there's still a lot of work to do.  This update won't be massive in content but is going to push the story forward.  My plan is to finish Episode 1 of Lylas Curse by the end of the year.  And actually close this part of the story out.  Then focus on going back and really polishing and fleshing out the side features I've talked about in the past.  Then moving on to Episode 2.  The entire story is planned out.

Thank you to everyone who has been so patient during this development time, and as you can see, I've been working on a lot of side pieces throughout that time and animations for Lyla which I absolutely adore.  After this update comes out, I want to focus on building a website to house the game progress and releases along with all of my other artwork and content for Lylas Curse.  Right now I really only post things on Twitter and here on Patreon. 

A lot of the slow down on development this year came from me slowing down the amount of time I've been focusing on the game.  I think I wound up burning out way too many times from constantly staying up late, then going to work during the day.  A year ago I switched jobs which has been great, but my commute round trip is 140 miles a day.  So I pretty much had to stop all of the late nights I would usually work on the game, then pop over to work with a few hours of sleep.  I can't really do that anymore with all of the driving.

Refactoring code is a really, really stressful thing to do, but extremely necessary in the long run. I know because that's what we are dealing with at the moment as well. I wish you luck in this endeavour!

Holy hell, a 70 mile commute is BRUTAL, I am shocked you have energy to work on the game at all! But thank you for the update and looking forward to seeing the new release! Also, I was always been here for the art / story / slüttification of the main character, so the hunting mechanic always seemed like it was going to end up being a distraction that would quickly become a grind I'd need to work through to get the story to move forward — so I'm happier hearing you are keeping it simple.

Yeah agreed, it may have been some scope creep in the hopes of always wanting to make something cool lol.
