Greetings fellow Chads,

This saturday my PC crashed :/
Impossible to start it again (infinite Windows loading).
Impossible to reach Safe Mode: I was screwed.
(Thank god I've made my weekly save of my work on my external drive)

After many unsuccesful tries, "21" aka Dictator, was kind enough to share a bit of his time and knowledge with me to help me fix my problem.
The main reason? One of my 3 hard drives was dead.

When I removed it, my PC worked like a charm!
I tried to plug it with a "SATA to USB" cable, but the PC crashed again and goes back to normal when I unplug it... Pretty weird.

The good news is that the Windows Hard Drive and Work hard drive are OK!
No work or animation sequences lost.

The bad news is that the drive contains tons of important stuff (photos, memories, taxes documents, movies, pron for science, Half Life 3, sound effects I use for my animations...) in other words, a huge part of my life :(

So I want to find a way to fix it but it's extremely expensive,
it'll be for another time I guess... :/

Anyway, I'm glad to have my PC back and goes back to work now.

if connecting it crashes windows, try connecting it in Linux/Ubuntu. If it connects, but still no files; try using the "testdisk" utility in command line. That's the first step of data recovery and it's free. It's a simple tool, but it should be used carefully on a drive that's already bad. It will recover anything that's recoverable due to errors in the file system or hard drive errors that are making the file system impossible for windows to read, but leaving most data intact. If testdisk doesn't see it, then the drive hardware is probably bad and you'd need a service. I'd recommend https://drivesaversdatarecovery.com/ and you can reference I.T. for clarity, testdisk is a powerful utility in linux, not in Windows
