Hello!

The next Sci Fi WIP is here!  You, know him, you fear him - Judge Dredd is the titular character from the universe created by 2000 AD comics.  The year is 2099 (actually moving forward in the comics) and the world is nuked to hell.  Everybody is crammed into Mega Cities which are cesspools of overpopulation and crime.  The only thing preventing society from complete collapse are the Judges and there is no Judge more feared and respected than Dredd.  Awesome setting for all sorts of over the top sci fi shenanigans and an interesting look at how society develops after a nuclear fallout scenario.

So the first Dredd movie had pretty faithful visuals but committed the cardinal sin of revealing Dredd's face. 🤦‍♂️ The whole concept of Dredd's character is that he's the faceless, immutable and uncompromising personification of the law so the first movie really dropped the ball on that front.  Although I've been told this was more because of Sylvester Stallone's insistence than any creative decision.  But the second movie with Karl Urban was much more faithful to the character and definitely my favourite depiction. 👍 Super bummed out that it never got a sequel. 😔 Wasn't there a Mega City One TV series in the works?  Anyways I stuck as close to the comic book style as possible.  That means the classic pauldrons and a chin that you can cut diamonds with. 😄

Next up we have Judge Fear from one of Dredd storylines.  This creepy thing is one of the four original Dark Judges from an alternate dimension.  The Dark Judges are incorporeal spirits that must inhabit corpses in order to cause physical harm.  To them, all crime is committed by the living and therefore life itself is a crime.  To go on their killing spree, Dark Judges possess deceased cadavers and appear as dark and twisted parodies of the actual Judges as we know them.  After many years of genocide, they finally wiped out every living being in their homeworld and turned their attention to Mega-City One only to be thwarted by Judge Dredd numerous times.

So I don't know much about the Dark Judge storyline but the suggestion does have Dredd punching Judge Fear in the face which looks awesome and hilarious.  Yeah, I'm definitely going to do that. 👍

I've also included a peek at what the Titanfall rifle looks like.  Big giant robots with big giant rifles, what's not to like?  I've also been drafting a Dreadknight version in parallel which I think is doable.  Will show that when it's more fleshed out.

Alright, poses are next!  Grimdark voting will also be starting within the week.  Please have your suggestions in before then.  Thanks!

Also Dredd was kind of a remake of The Raid, which is also a great movie.

Where are the suggestion boxes?

I think the line was: "Look into the face of Fear", "Look into the fist of Dredd" as Dredd punched fear in the open face helm.

lol, can't say that I'm surprised that Dredd has no ass

Yeah, pretty much. I think it was "Gaze in the face of Fear" then "Gaze into the fist of Dredd!" Great exchange! 👍

I admire the sculpting, but as a guy who paints this shit, I look at all the gribly detail and think "I have to paint all this shit..."

Interesting... Is there any chance to get the gun in the last pic to print as a single piece, without hands on it?

Heh. My mother is a huge Star Trek fan. I was rewatching Dredd and had to show her the credits to convince her that Dredd was Karl Urban, the latest Bones McCoy. The gritty growl and lack of more than his jaw visible really sold the character much better than Stallone. Plus, less comedy. I did kind of miss the Scorched Earthers though...

Sometimes, all the greebles and detail make it really fun and rewarding at the end. You know. After you had to learn two or three new paint techniques to make it look just right. And buy those three bottles of paint to make it look perfect. And then...
