Clarence "Andy" Anderson came forward with his eyewitness account of the abduction of Kimberly Leach in late July 1978, over six months after her abduction. He would later prove to be the prosecution's key witness for the positive identification of Ted Bundy as the suspect at trial. The Bundy defense managed to get the tapes and transcripts entered into evidence in an effort to prove that Anderson's testimony had been "coached," and while their effort was successful, that argument did not sway the jury.

Anderson: Well, this morning when I was watching the news, I saw Theodore Bundy on TV, and when I saw him, he turned sideways and I saw a profile of him. He looked an awful lot like the man that I saw put a dark-haired girl in his white van in front of the Lake City Junior High School…
I really wasn't ... I still had a lot of doubts about it. I didn't want to come to the Police Department on a wild goose chase for something for them to run down. And I still had a lot of doubt about it until I was talking to you about it this morning. I've seen pictures of Bundy in the papers and could see where there was a resemblance, but until this morning when I saw the news and I saw him turn sideways, well, when I saw his profile. I knew I had to come to tell somebody about it cause it looks an awful lot like the man...
