January Pin-up - King Triton (Patreon)
Content
Time for our monthly pinup!!!
This month had a lot of tiny delays that stacked up, so I ended up working on it late!! But nevertheless, here it is!
Let's start the step by step!
edit: added a glittery version!!!!
- Thumbnail! Wanted a cute father-daughter moment. I exaggerated Triton's size here - but he is the king of the seas right?! I can't imagine him not being great, which includes size as well.
A cool detail to take in consideration is his pelvis box - I'll soon talk about it!
- A structure pass. I used their pelvis boxes as references for the placement of the little veil fins the have at that region. I've always seen those, but never drew them I think! It was a cool opportunity.
Ariel was also topless here because y'know, she's a tiny child, I even made that cute toddler body type where they are tiny, clumsy and have a cute tummy!! but you know with all creeps around in the internet, I chose to cover it later.
- Head sketch! The beardless and maneless face of Triton ended up pretty funny didn't
it!!! Flowy underwater hair for both of them!
- Final sketch!! Triton ended up BIG right!!
- First lineart pass! note how I moved his hand down, besides scaling it down as well. The head scritch reminded me of the Reinhardt piece I did some time ago.... wanted to make it a bit more different!
...I also forgot the bracelets in the sketch somehow, and put them here!!
- Putting weight in the lines!!!
- Flatsssss. It's a bit impressive and strange whenever I work with a character that have simple color schemes and little to no clothing. I always feel I'm missing something out, as the number of colors and details are reduced! Lots of blues... and ariel's beautiful red hair!!
- Flats!!! As explained in the step before this one, I ended not stressing out this time as I usually do at this step. Also laid down the base for the background.
- Shadows for little ariel! Her hair is fun to draw!!
- Primary shadows for the king...
- And secondary shadows! The shadows are more focused on his head area. I wanted the hair to have a bit more of depth, as In it's flowing behind him.
And that concludes our monthly pin-up post. I'll be opening the voting for the next character on the 1st! (((:
