November Pin-up - Asgore (Patreon)

Time for monthly pinup!!!
November has been so busy over here, what about yours? My birthday is coming... This time of the year is always a bit complicated, but I'm goin!
I usually like to do pin-ups with a wholesome approach, but that's a side so explored regarding Asgore that I can't help to be the contrarian..................
Let's start!!
> Thumbnailing!!
Went for the body motion and gesture first. I even tried to do armor included but it just broke the flow.... So I actually finished the figure and then tried putting the armor on it!
For the composition, I wanted to include the six human souls and a flowey inspired frame with lots of thorny vines.
> Here's how the sketch went!
For the spear I made it flat separately and used the deform tool to apply it in perspective. I left to work the details in the upcoming step.
> Lineart with no weight applied!
The lack of contrast is disheartening.......
> Weight treatment!!
> I noticed that with the way I did things in the thumbnail, placement of the six souls and border would kind of clutter everything and be ugly,... I mean, besides having no room to it at all LOL
And ofc I really wanted to put these two elements.... (eight?!)
I tried to arrange the souls in a radial circle and decided to make the borders less chaotic and with a nouveau feel?
It really demanded a new... ornament structure sketch?!
> Here I made the lineart for the border!! Spiky spiky fun.
It's a cool challenge to make an abstract border and then give the lines a different material. This one was spiky vines!
Also note the base for the souls on the lower left corner - I wanted to focus on finishing the figure and not on less important elements so I made a base for all souls!!
Gotta learn to pay more attention to what actually matters in a picture! I can get easily distracted with flashy bits.....
> Things I haven't done in a hot while - color sketchessssss. They are helpful goddamn. Maybe if I actually did it in the comic I could have an easier time coloring.
> Finished the vines, and polished the base of the soul!
With that soul, I only needed to pick my colors and apply them accordingly. It's important that they glowwwwwww
> Finished BG first!!! lookin cute!!
Then I was like
WOW there's a WHOLE picture ahead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😂
> Flatssss. Few colors so that's GREAT. Also because I didn't skip color sketch, I didn't have to crack my head picking the colors. I did that more calmly in the earlier step!
> Primary shadows!
I want asgore to look strong, but also fluffy and plumpy. So I wanted to make the shadows less hard for his body! Soft, soft. Guess it gives good contrast to the hard shadows the armor has.
> Secondary shadows!
An important thing here that I've been applying recently - If I do metals, I'd rather do the secondary shadows separately, with color!!! I really don't know why but it makes it way easier.
> Base shadows applied!!!!
> And then the armor rendering! Golden golden golden.
From here I did his vanishing to dust effect.... tragic..............................
And that concludes our monthly pin-up post. I'll be opening the voting for the next character on the 1st! 😊
