November Pin-up - Peony! (Patreon)
Content
Heya!! Here's this month's pin up. Peony is such a cutie right!!! I hope I was able to make him justice.
I watched the cutscenes of the Crown Tundra expansion to get to know him better! As much as I like additional information about him (like the ones in his trainer card) I really feel he's a wasted potential as a character....... ;____; I thought the fact he was possessed EVERYTIME he was on screen funny so I wanted to make this one with two versions, one goofy peony and the other one the regal possessed peony! Let's see how I tackled that lil challenge <<<:
> Worked with a perspective grid this time! Miss working with those, and somehow it gets a bit easier every time, even though I still have a hard time with it and stuff does end up looking offish in my view? dunno! Wanted to draw the back of Peony's rented house you use as a mission in the game in Freezington.
> More details, setting up where the figure will be...
> Wanted more focus in the figure so I rescaled everything! This could be easily thought up if I had THUMBNAILED STUFF buuuut yknow.............. I didn't,,,,
>Added calyrex!! observant... Also the little flag on the back adds to the characterization of the place I think!
> The pose was kinda stiff and boring... Tried to add a contraposto to make the pose more flowy! I'd say it worked.
> Raising his leg slightly also helped wonders with the pose. Polished everyone out of the very rough and did both heads I'll be working with. EEEEK! A headless body?!! Get ready to see it some more times from now on uh! Also felt the need to put one of Peony's beloved pokemon with him - that way it kinda feels the smile is to him.
> polish polish polish on the background!!!! This is the stage it looks the best imo, I'm still not very happy on how I finish bgs ;_;
>EEEK HEADLESS!!! I worked the version with the heads over it. Kinda creepy tho right?!
> Color sketch!!! Lots of deep blues.... Wanted to play contrasting it with warm oranges and browns. The window up there shows it's cozy and warm inside once you're done with your backyard hot water bath! some color notes on the left to remind of when I'm actually flatting
> And a test for the possessed version, I wanted the effect to look cool!
> FLATSSSSbbblllluurrhghhhh
>Rendering the background! At this point the OST for the city was on loop for a while lol!
> HEADLESS SCARE... Base shadows for the characters! I worked with toned grays for this piece, a more blue oriented one. Kinda looks like snow right?
> Base shadows set out!! From here I rendered to the finished version!
That concludes our monthly pin-up post! I'll be opening the voting for the next character on the 1st, I'm looking forward to your participation on it!
