I've have this SFW project for years that started with my love of Disney villains but quickly grew to encapsulate larger ideas around sci-fi/fantasy in general. All the characters are both popular archetypes from these sources but also analogs for marginalized communities.

Over the years I've drawn and drawn each one but never really feel like I've nailed any of them perfectly - but I always feel like I am close to the target. Above is a character named Mrs. Boodler, who I've always envisioned as a Willona Woods-type (from the 70's sitcom Good Times), but instead of a swinging single lady, she's a single mother of 6.

I have about... 4 versions of her in my sketchbook, but this one is probably the furthest along in terms of success - BUT, she's too glam. So I need to make some changes to her wardrobe to make her a bit more working class and I think I've got it enough to start storyboarding.

And while I do not need to design any of them at this point - they are minor characters - I'm really excited to come up with her 6 kids - who are roughly based on the children of Carla Tortelli (from the 80's sitcom Cheers) and named after some memorable sitcom kids of my youth.

Each one sort of adds to a piece of her character development: Her low-key, hardworking first eldest son. Her unimpressed, resourceful teenage daughter. Her nosy, know-it-all second daughter. Her hyper, misbehaving twin sons. And her precocious baby.
