---  RUMOURS RANLILABZ SUFFERING FROM CUBITAL TUNNEL SYNDROME DENOUNCED AS 'LIES'  --- TRACTOR PRODUCTION UP 500% THIS JUNE  ---  CERVAXIAN WAR 'MISSION ACCOMPLISHED' FOLLOWING GLORIOUS RETREAT FROM SIRIUS SYSTEM  --- PRESIDENT-FOR-LIFE SKYLARK ACCOLADED BY UNION ACADEMY OF THE SCIENCES AS 'A TREMENDOUSLY WELL-BALANCED SUPER-GENIUS' ---

Oh dear... so much Fake News these days πŸ˜‚. Unfortunately I am suffering from Cubital Tunnel Syndrome... a repetitive strain injury that means two fingers on my right hand are numb (and rather uncomfortable). I'm booked into the physios on Monday, so hopefully he'll be able to sort me out, but it's severely restricting the amount of work I'm currently able to do. The cause? Clicking that computer mouse so much! 🐁

This is infuriating... I'm so close to finishing up the main graphics of the Remaster, and with my new study and computer I should be in a period of unparalleled productivity. In the UK we have a phrase for this - Sod's Law. I think the US calls it Murphy's Law, but for any less cynical cultures, it means that whatever can go wrong will go wrong... generally at the worst possible time πŸ™„

Now, I should stress that this is merely slowing me down rather than stopping me... it'd take more that a couple of numb fingers to do that! πŸ¦Έβ€β™‚οΈ But you should know that the release will no longer be in the first half of this month. Nevertheless, there will still be July and August releases πŸ˜€

We had the June remaster, and I think all ranli means it's that there will be a July remaster still.

Hey so, I've actually had the exact same strain injury. This is probably something people won't want to hear, but if you feel you need to take a break or slow down by a lot, you definitely should. These nerve injuries are annoyingly slow to heal. Your doctor or physiotherapist will hopefully give you the help you need, possibly some different postures you can sit in to work, it definitely helped me to change up how I was using my arm while I was working in terms of positioning. But anyway take it easy!

uman

Wishing you a fast recovery. I had a similar problem years ago and switched to using a RollerMouse Pro. Life changing.

Scott Percival

I had tendonitus in my hands, a little different I think, but I let it get really bad before I saw the doctor. Like uman, doc switched me to a roller ball (kensington ) and had me work out to strengthen my hands. After a few months of that, I've been pain free ever since.

uman

Just as an FYI, the RollerMouse Pro isn’t quite the same as a roller ball. It’s actually a long rolling bar that sits at the base of the keyboard with mouse buttons behind it. It’s great because I can keep my hand completely flat to operate it.

Many thanks, remy! Looking forward to hearing what he has to say (and hoping I can get over this as fast as possible!) Might need a wrist/elbow brace or something for a bit, plus all the annoying exercises.

Ryan Fox

Oh wow, hopefully it's just a temporary thing because you've been working in overdrive and the doc will give you the all clear after some time. Sorry to hear that you've developed that, but your efforts shall doubtless be rewarded in due time.

In other news, I always knew President-for-life Skylark was a genius, but know he's a proven genius. See the medal he wears around his neck, with the Capetian blue ribbon, you don't hand those out to posers let me tell you, only Grade A geniuses. Excuse me, SUPER-geniuses. Of which there is only one, President-for-life Skylark obviously. And by the way, anyone who calls it a retreat from the Sirius System of any kind is fake news and may be subject to anti-sedition laws. It was a tactical redeployment, after all, retreats are only something losers do. President-for-life Skylark is certainly no loser, and neither are our courageous and ΓΌber sexy forward infantry.

RanliLabz

Wow! This type of thing is more common than I thought! Interestingly saw that it's more common if you're not doing other exercise to keep your heartrate up (and I've been sitting on my arse ever since my Covid thing, so I guess I made it more likely). At least this will force me to exercise again - even if a lot of it is just the hands and arms!

LukaM

yeah, it does seem one of the things that need almost total rest and not just slow-down to resolve. On the other hand, look at the positive side, now you can practice using the mouse with the other hand and become ambidextrous :D

Scott Percival

I design 3D parts in CAD for a living, so I mostly use the mouse, rarely the keyboard. I put both thumbs on the ball to whip it around and use my fingers for the buttons. I get lots of people commenting, but it works for me.

Hopefully all is well. You take care of yourself and go at a reasonable pace :)

πŸ˜‚ I am crazy clumsy with my left. But yes, I will prob need to take an actual holiday... which will be very weird for me since you don't tend to take holidays from something you enjoy so much!

RanliLabz

Interesting - it would be a big change for me, but if if ends up as necessary, I guess I'll have to learn!

Feel better and take the time you need to recover, better rest and heal than try to push through and prolong the injury!

Pilgrim

Since couple of years I work regularly switiching the mouse between both hands. Usually 5 days in week the left and 2 days the right. Strongly reccomended :-)

RanliLabz

Cheers Austin! πŸ˜€ Yes, overall health is the most important. After this update, I might take the opportunity to send my computer in for a tune-up... take away the temptation to work and still feel like I'm doing something! πŸ˜‚

RanliLabz

Sadly my ambidexterity is appalling! I can do normal stuff with my left; but it's just not agile enough for the artistic side. Still, I should take your advice and switch left when I'm just coding, messaging, etc. πŸ˜‰

Ouch - hope you feel better soon. Also I am very proud of myself for resisting the urge to make a joke about repetitive strain injury while working on a sex based game

RanliLabz

Cheers Such Sights... genuinely surprised you're the first the make the rsi joke πŸ˜‚

But don't use a normal mouse when you're going left handed and I say that as an actual lefty (it took me about a year to get as comfortable using a right handed normal mouse), use one of those billed as ergonomical "tower" models for a decent left handed computer mouse.

Matthew Scott

Do what you gotta do. I think we can wait for you to get better. Just make sure to take breaks from time to time. Maybe bench watch a show or two.
