what they were talking about regarding the bible verse is that according to Christianity, follower of Christ are supposed to love the enemy as they love even themselves. You're supposed to forgive those who have dealt wrongfully against you and treat others how you want to be treated typically(being nice) This is similar to the philosophy that Thorfinn is mostly relating to....regarding his fathers words and the life even askeladd wanted for Thorfinn in his future. (no I'm not spreading christian message to convert anyone lol idc about that..im just explaining)(regardless of whether someone agrees or disagrees...thats the philosophy Thorfinn is mostly relating to atm...the message of Christ...except in Christianity...you have to put your faith in Christ and what you cant see.) (Thorfinn wants to put his faith in himself and other people who he believes can change for the better...which means everyone else regardless of how repulsive they may seem such as rapist)Thorfinn wants to actively chase what he desires instead of praying on it ad trust his eyes...Christianity without Christ...I have some disagreements with certain things and whatnot but its thought provoking certainly and i do respect Christianity alot...alot alot but i'm agnostic. I also dont believe that snake was honest when he said that he only wants to sell the bible. its a very small quick thing...the work snake has put into preserving the old man is worth much more than the book itself in the monetary sense.(not knowledge or wisdom) i think...99% sure snake cares for him genuinely......whats interesting is that snakes tummy being hungry because more than 2 meals were skipped(the old man likely never made snake skip 2 meals..maybe 1 at most or none) is what made him realize the old man mightve been down for the count...because its unlike the old man to let snake go a certain time without food. which speaks to the old mans kindness...the old mans kindness is also what saved the old man here...the kidness of his actions likely led snake to finding the old man on the field because something wasnt right.
