I love the relationship between Izumi and the Elric brothers. With them, she got some sort of the child she lost, and they found a mother figure to look up to. BTW, just in case you'd like to know (manga info ahead): Izumi doesn't leave the Elric brothers alone in the island. Without them knowing about it, she leaves one... let's call him "assistant" of hers, disguised as a monster, to make their lives there even worse (scaring them, stealing their food, etc.). You could say she wanted to test their resolve, but also make sure to keep an eye on them, in case things went bad quickly.
