hi! usually every week I post a Question of the Week to my Discord and we talk about our answers in stream. This week's question is a bit "bigger" than the average question and I was hoping for answers here (although if you want to tag me on Discord in the anime chat, that's fine too).

We'll chat about it at the start of Sunday's stream and I want to use some answers for a blog post I'm planning to write soon.

QUESTION: Have you ever watched an anime (on a legal site) because you saw me reacting to it and it looked good/got you excited to see what it's about? Or have you ever bought manga, because you got into the anime through this community and loved it so much you bought manga/merchandise?

- the point of the blog post is about fair use and why I believe that (most) people who react to/review anime/manga add to (or at least keep alive) the hype for shows and give more to the industry than they may "take away", especially considering pirate sites still exist and no one would watch a show in the faded corner of a reactor's screen if they can watch it in HD on a pirate site.

Of course, just because pirate sites exist doesn't make it okay for reactors to "do the same", but the purpose of the post is to get into why it's not the same, since reactors create something new, especially when we go all out with our reviews.

Of course I'm aware of the music and everything that is included when we react to shows, but I hope to add some "solutions" to these problems, because "fair use" is a fairly new concept and pretty vague (especially when it comes to Japan), but that's why I think it's an important discussion to have and I would like to hear from you how watching my reactions (or reactions in general) has benefited the anime and manga community.

Drifters is first that came to mind. I'd never found it without you watching. Gintama, 3 episodes of jojo (that I regret), Haikyu I'd have never given a chance, I'm sure theres more that I cant think of.

I only watch reactions to series that i've already seen. And the only times i've used "pirate sites" was to circumnavigate censorship of anime in my country that was done for the sake of placing the anime into the children time slot on TV.

I mean i don't watch anime online on illegal sites but also i don't watch anime on legal sites (even though i have Netflix, Crunchyroll, Amazon prime and funimation) The reason i don't watch anime online on illegal sites Is because they make profit with ads and the video quality sucks I don't watch anime on legal sites because they suck Netflix in LATAM has psycho-pass but Is censored and the video quality sucks and TTGL video quality is the worst thing i have ever seen that Is insulting to the consumers (if u don't believe me compare the Best raws on internet with any anime online of Netflix). Crunchyroll subs on certain shows have censorship like in JoJo's where what Is happening and what the subs are saying doesn't make sense. Funimation has censorship but the subs are amazing and the video quality is good but the platform sucks. Amazon prime sucks at searching anime even if you go to the animation category or search "anime" you won't see the entire catalog of anime you have to seach the specific mame of the anime. So i just download anime on the site of the cat noise (i won't say the name u know what sound the Cats make) because that site has the Best video quality ever of any anime u want and the Best fansubs (i enjoy more anime if when they translate the OP, ED and insert songs) you want with not a single ad and the download Is the fastest way possible if there are enogh seeds.

Only with Shaman King and Jujutsu Kaisen. I didn't know there was a shaman king remake until I saw your posts on it and tried to watch it on Netflix until I found out that Netflix releases it in August. And then JJK I already knew was out but was reluctant to start watching because I didn't know if it was going to be a show I liked. But generally, I only watch reactions to things I've seen before lol

Markub El Jaden

I watched JJK because you reacted to it

(A bit late but oh well ^^) I've mentioned it before, but yes, watching this channel is what made me subscribe to crunchyroll and buy manga/merch - I'm very grateful for that, I didn't know buying manga would make me this happy ^-^ And again yes, I started Dr. Stone because I saw your reaction to it on youtube (and now it's one of my favorites!), plus I started watching a few others after becoming a patreon and seeing them on here (the Monogatari series, Sangatsu, LOTL and some more :D)

Before joining your patreon I had only watch a few anime but since then I have watched so many different anime, across multiple genres either based on a direct recommendation from you or because you were planning to watch it. Fruits Basket is the best example I can think for this. Under normal circumstances I probably wouldn't have considered watching it but thanks to hearing about it so much in the community it made me want to watch it, and now it is among some of my favourites! Manga wasn't high on my priority list but since you started doing OP readalongs I now pay to use the Shonen Jump app so I can read at the same time. I don't have plans to buy physical copies or any merch atm but that is more due to lack of space than actually not wanting to. If I do buy some in the future then it will be thanks to you introducing me to so many great anime that I want to go beyond just watching it.
