This show is great because it shows a different perspective of what an adventure could be like. Its genre is dark fantasy, so a bit of gore is to be expected. What makes it different, is the fact that the MC is a child. To a child, a world can still seem wondrous, even though it is full of darkness. So, rather than being like some other run-of-the-mill Shonen type anime, it is actually interesting. I think one of the key points of this show, is to depict scenarios where (one) MC is trying to deal with a situation that is beyond their ability. Not like some cliched Shonen, where MC has hidden/special powers, makes grand virtuous speeches and other character troupes.

-I think you are misunderstanding my comment. As someone who loves your reviews/commentary, I was just highlighting the fact that your focus on MC being a child (or rather un-qualified) was a bit too much. It felt like the actual story has been sidelined. -To clarify what I meant by "dislike", I was not referring to rating, rather the commentary on the author's use of a child MC. You can surely have a different opinion, just that this discussion would be more appropriate in end commentary, not in the middle of the episodes. (When it is the entire premise of this show) That is all. -To the comment about me being defensive, I don't think it is accurate. This show is not my favorite and I am by no means, offended. -I am not dissing the entire Shonen genre, it is the mainstay of Japanese anime and some of the best anime ever made (in my opinion) are Shonen. However, there are usually common themes in many of them (like MC being powerful/skilled). Pointing that out does not mean I am bringing down the genre. This anime is showing what happens, if you rush into a situation you are not equipped to deal with, and then facing the consequences.

With all due respect, I don’t think you get to tell me when I can comment on and what is too much commentary especially when it comes to children in media. Whether or not it is fictional. It is for me to decide to what extent I am comfortable with something like that and if you don’t like my commentary you can skip it. Disagreeing with me is one thing, and that’s fine. But I mean this comment here, telling me what to say and when to say it, is not okay.
