One of the best 2 eps arc I’ve watched, Sougo and Hijikata are really amazing

Gintama story really be top tier. One piece and Gintama in my opinion have the best storylines in anime and Gintama especially when it comes to its comedy is unparalleled.

Any patrons watching with us, just a friendly reminder to avoid any kind of spoilers for future events. "It's spicy." That quote basically sums up my entire feeling about this storyline. I don't want to get teary-eyed, but somehow every time I watch, it's like eating spicy crackers... I can't help but get misty. A lot of the music in these 2 episodes are my favorites in the whole series. I associate with them probably because of the moments. The ending song ("SIGNAL") is pretty good, too. However, I'm excited about next week's ending song because it rivals Mr. Raindrop as one of (my) favorites. JUMP FESTA is a real thing, by the way. You can get anime merch from all the big Shonen Jump big guns. Obviously, around this time, Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece were the kings. Nowadays I'm sure you'd be more likely to get MHA, Demon Slayer, and Dr. STONE. JUMP FESTA is also a place where they show off new anime or exclusive episodes made especially for the event. GinTama's first 2 episodes debuted there, BUT, it also has a handful of Specials to watch that have been animated over the years. If we find time, we can watch them in chronological order (the years when they came out).

This arc really was heartbreaking. I loved how hype Benizakura was, but at the time I didn't know if Gintama would ever become that serious again. It's hard to write a story that balances comedy and drama so well, but Gintama does it so beautifully. I love how Gintama can have a running joke like Hijikata eating spicy chips, and completely recontextualize it into something so sad by the end. It's the same with Okita and Hijikatas rivalry, even though things will go back to normal next episode, we're now looking at Toshi and Sugo's relationship in a different way. I really loved what you said at the end of Ep. 87; how Gintama does a really good job at differentiating its serious and comedic tones. One little detail I love with Okitas last scene with his sister, was when her hand starts to slowly fall away from him. The animation of Okita grabing it and holding her hand to his cheek was heartbreaking. It was such a small detail, but it added so much. I'm curious, have your thoughts about Okita changed over the course of the series? I really wasn't feeling him at first, but now I love him.

Dam Gintama always with the feels

He was a funny character at first, especially liked his dynamic with Kagura. But he wasn't like a "stand out" character imo. These two episodes gave him a lot of depth tho, which I don't think he had before (imo). He was just some funny guy with a bazooka, now he's Okita. Hope that makes sense

I can’t wait til we are closer to ep 200ish and beyond
